The Kaiser once said, “Give me a woman who loves beer and I will conquer the world.” If the Kaiser and his significant other had tipped this bottle, we’d all be “sprechenden Deutsch!” We took all that is good in a traditional Oktoberfest – gorgeous, deep copper sheen, massive malty backbone and spicy, floral, pungent Noble hops – then intensified each into this, an Imperial Oktoberfest.

Poured from a can into a pint glass. Pours orange red with a small off white head. Smells of fresh fruit and caramelized grain. Tastes of malty caramelized grain with some bright fruit. Beer is light bodied and easy drinking, good carbonation. Overall, a very good beer.

Appearance:
Clear gold-amber. Creamy buff head that lasts and somewhat laces.

Aroma:
caramel, toasted malts and faint noble hops

Flavor:
Sweet, nutty and toasty. moderate hop bitterness struggles to balance.

Mouthfeel:
Medium to full. Appropriate CO2, no astringency. Alcohol is somewhat hidden. Too syrupy.

Overall:
A Märzen super-sized. The flavors are appropriate to style, but too loud all around. I prefer this style at normal volume.

Somehow the lager style here just doesn't do very well under the weight of all the abv in this brew. It's decent, but the abv leaves a really off-putting metallic aftertaste.

12 ounce can poured into a dimpled mug.

L: Orange/copper, slightly cloudy, one finger off-white head with good retention.
S: moderate strength nose, more buttery than bready, herbal hops.
T: Semi-dry, somewhat toasty but getting more herbal hop flavor than malt, some citrus (orange-like) hop flavor as it warms.
F: Medium body and carb, starts with a crisp edge but otherwise smooth.
O: Decent Marzen, not boozy but I expected more flavor for 8% ABV.

Poured from a can into a tulip glass. Orangish golden yellow color with good white head and good curtain lacing. Sweet caramel and toast smell and taste. A bit of a nutty and slightly boozy finish. A bit sweet.

Medium orange/amber look. Light, caramel tinged, medium toast malt aroma. Nice, edge to an off-dry, medium caramel malt taste, with a tiny spiced wood note.

Poured from a 12 oz can
The look is dark amber to brown. Pretty much headless, made some foam on the pour which disappeared quite quickly and eventually entirely. That was a bit of a disappointment.

At fridge temp smell is much like any other marzen lager. Slight caramelized sweetness and malt among the lager yeast smell. Slight noble hops providing bitterness in the smell.

The hops are present upfront but quickly overshadowed by a wave of dark malt and some of that caramelized sweetness from the smell, as they fades that hops rejoin providing the german anything feel with slight alcohol on the tongue and some sweetness provided by the alcohol. While cold taste is quite dangerous with this abv.

Feel is quite thick but that's to be expected with it being called an imperial octoberfest. It is done quite well and is very smooth for the abv with just a slight warming feeling after swallowing but as drinkable as most lagers.

Overall surprisingly smooth and what you want out of an octoberfest but more in that they delivered on their promises. It is just a bit unfortunate the head was so fleeting and small.

I've wanted to try this for year, but it seemed to not come my way. This time out in CO I found it. Got it in Nov, and the canned stated dated was late July, I believe.
Anyway. the aroma is nice and rich, but I don't think it stands out. A bit hazy and a off-white dense head.
Rich flavor. Some qualities of toast. Good malt flavor. Slight dryness on the finish, very subtle hop flavor.
Moderate mouth feel. Not particularly clean but still some lager like qualities.
I let this one, my last one, warm up quite a bit before consuming and that really seems to have made a difference, as my earlier ones I did not enjoy as much as this one.
I had fantasized what a big marzen might be like. This didn't meet my expectations, but I don't regret it, and I might buy it again if I can get it fresher and make sure to let it warm up well before partaking.
BTW - I like the new can design for Avery and the whole line that follows suit. Very attractive.

A great-tasting all-around Octoberfest lager that just happens to be of imperial strength.

Appearance: Poured into a pint glass a somewhat dark orange with a one-finger foam head that quickly dissipated.

Aroma: The first thing I detect is sweet malt and a bit of fresh banana bread, then comes a bit of "booze."

Taste: Warming alcohol is first up, then comes the malt and bread notes.

Mouthfeel: Creamy and slick with medium carbonation. The finish is somewhat dry, with a bit of warming alcohol present.

Overall, an exciting beer within the traditional "Marzen" style. At 8% ABV, there is a bit of warming alcohol, but it isn't overpowering.

5 oz pour on tap. Super boozy, more like a strong ale than a Marzen. Some toasty/biscuity notes creep in with the warming alcohol. Mouthfeel is - again - hot. Drinks more like a 10-12% abv beer than 8%. Meh.
