Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 10.20%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Maharaja is derived from the sanskrit words mahat, meaning “great”, and rajan, meaning “king”. Much like its namesake, this imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty. With hops and malts as his servants, he rules both with a heavy hand. The Maharaja flaunts his authority over a deranged amount of hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane amount of malted barley – fashioning a dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence. Welcome to his kingdom!

The Maharaja is the second installment in our Dictator Series.

Bomber poured into an IPA glass

A - Pours a hazy auburn color loaded with sediment. Big fluffy khaki head.

S - Muted citrus with a hint of dankness. Pretty bland.

T - Big piney explosion that I did not see coming from the smell. Just a tiny hint of citrus in the back ground. Not much in the way of malt, just a hint of a cracker malt backbone.

M - Really not too pleasant. Excessively bitter and hot. Prickly on the tongue and finishes SUPER dry, it's only saving grace.

O - Pretty let down by this. I didn't get much hop presence other than pine and the mouth was pretty off. Very hot and bitter. I'd like to give this another go when I know it's super fresh but I couldn't see what the bottled on date was.

A- Poured into a tulip. Darker than most DIPA. If it didn't have a 1/4" head on it I'd think it was a nice scotch.

S - nice sweet and boozy. Burnt caramel, apple cider, hint of bubblegum. I couldn't wait to taste

T - big bucket of yum. Great balance of pine and grapefruit. I thought the bitter, the booziness, sweetness would linger but it doesn't. Gives enough greatness to quench that palate and just mellows into your chest. Then begs for a refill

M - dig it. Nice and smooth. Nuff said

O - I tried this beer years ago before I really started exploring stronger beers, different styles etc. This was a great homecoming. I love this beer. It smacks the mouth with booze and tartness but mellows almost as soon as it appears. It may be a beer that's been around for a while but it's greatness hasn't faded.

poured into tulip. fairly dark, orange red. this beer does have some amazing flavors to it. but whats really amazing about it is the silkiness of the mouthfeel. it really does go a long way because I cant say I enjoy this more than dirt wolf or stone enjoy by IPA, when it comes to flavor (just 2 other DIPAS ive had recently)
