Notes / Commercial Description:
Maharaja is derived from the sanskrit words mahat, meaning “great”, and rajan, meaning “king”. Much like its namesake, this imperial IPA is regal, intense and mighty. With hops and malts as his servants, he rules both with a heavy hand. The Maharaja flaunts his authority over a deranged amount of hops: tangy, vibrant and pungent along with an insane amount of malted barley – fashioning a dark amber hue and exquisite malt essence. Welcome to his kingdom!

The Maharaja is the second installment in our Dictator Series.

Pours amber with a cream-colored head. Excellent retention, some slight lace, which is a real surprise. Thick beer. Bubbles slosh suspended in liquid.

Some caramel malt and toasty goodness, but this one is all hops. Big leafy oily piney hop notes and a good whiff of booze.

Now this is where the rubber meets the road. Huge hop oil flavor up front. Resinous. Brown bread crust, slight fruit, well-hidden (!) alcohol for ABV%, some herbal notes, and a very very smooth bitter finish.

Medium to fuller bodied. Very good carbonation.

Big winner here. big bottle is made to be shared. Not hard to finish, but this is an ass-kicker. So worthy.

Served from bottle into pint glass.

A- Poured a copper-amber color. A nice amount of sediment in the glass. The head was about a finger and half width, but a short retention... Decent sticky lacing.

S- piny, malty, dark fruits/citrus. A good balanced aroma, but it didn't pop so much. It was very subtle on the nose.

T- Grapefruit and Meyer Lemon peel, a sweet malt, and piney hop goodness fills your mouth, then a very warm finish with a mild spice of alcohol creeps up on you. The alcohol isn't very overpowering, but you know it's there. This is a fierce Imperial IPA indeed.

MF- Syrupy/chewy. It is a thick ale that goes down smooth with a medium carbonation. Your palate just won't let go of the taste, feel and that mild alcohol spice.

O- Not bad at all... This is a very intense ale, with many complex characteristics that transitions well between aroma and taste. Expect your tongue to be kicked around with this DIPA, it is definitely for the bold bitter enthusiast.
