Mediate on this transcendent rich and robust spiced seasonal of a decidedly different sort. Brewed with spiced chai tea.

Pours slightly hazy maroon red brown with a creamy light khaki colored foam head. Notes of spiced chai tea, autumn spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, ginger, cardamom, clove, carob, hint of dried orange peel, black tea leaves, dark toasty bready malts, caramel, a bit of roasty char, and bitter herbal earthy floral hops. Feels light bodied, creamy with smooth moderate carbonation. Overall a nice spiced chai tea ale.

This beer makes a nice transition from the Rye Beer of yesterday to the beginning of an Avery horizontal which will last for a few days in support of The CANQuest (tm).
From the CAN: "Autumn Seasonal Selection"; "Ale with Spiced Chai Tea added"; "Mediate on this transcendent rich and robust spiced seasonal of a decidedly different sort."; "Brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, spiced chai tea, hops, and yeast."
Mmm. I will cop to having done a little in-CAN agitation before Crack!ing open the vent, but that was because I wanted to ensure that the adjuncts were back in suspension. Once the vent was Crack!ed open, I went with a slow, gentle C-Line Glug since it had probably been agitated enough at that point. I was pleasantly surprised by a pseudo-cascade that resulted in the formation of just under two fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, light-tan head with decent retention. Color was Brown to Dark Brown (SRM = > 22, < 27) with NE-quality clarity, about the color of … tea! 8=O Nose was quite spicy with hints of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger & allspice. Mmm. It would be a really nice alternative to a Pumpkin Beer, but I was fortunate in that we have had a cool Spring & it still filled the bill. It probably would not have been quite as good on a swelteringly hot, humid day. Mouthfeel was medium, but it had a frothy effervescence. The taste was very evocative of Chai tea, something that I hit upon in college. It had a solid spiciness, but it was not spicy in the same way that Pumpkin Beers are spicy. It was more mellow, more rounded, less jangly. It was a very calming beer on this particular evening. Finish was dry, as any beer that incorporates spices should be expected to evince. I was felling quite mellow after this one. YMMV.

12oz can into a pint glass. Canned 8/17, so 14 months old here.
Muddy brown colored body, saved by a big creamy/foamy head leaving good lacing
Good hit of mixed spices, cinnamon, nutmeg, and also an aroma of raisins
Well I guess it makes a change from the usual fall assault of pumpkin spice, but the mix of Chai, cinnamon, ginger (?) comes off as a little too bitter for this palate.
Mouth closing in on full, Chai spice finish slightly bitter
Overall, this doesn't quite hit the spot for me, perhaps the age is an issue with the bitterness. Glad I only picked up a single. will re-review if I find a fresher one.

Poured from a 12 oz can into a tulip
L: Cloudy dark walnut brown pour. 2 fingers of foamy off-white head... great lacing.
S: Smells fantastic... Chai and evergreen... sugar and spice... kinda smells like the Holidays
T/F: Brown ale-ish base... toasted malts and grains... dark sugars and earth, upon which is layered a non-subtle blast of Chai and spice. Tea, spruce/evergreen, cardamom, and nutmeg... the spice overpowers the beer a bit. Medium bodied... well carbonated and sticky on the tongue. The finish and aftertaste is chai.
O: This delivers exactly what it offers... spicy Chai on top of a beer. Not a bad brew... a little overpowering, and not one I'd want regularly. Made for a nice change of pace, and again... it smells/tastes like Christmas.
