Sour ale and fruit have many natural affinities for one another. But there seems to be something special about apricot; something that Avery Brewing has now stumbled into.

Their Apricot Sour leaps right out with musty fruit of citrus, stone fruit and tropical fragrances that rest above a pale golden, hazy and creamy, frothy foam stance. Looking much like true fruit juice, the beer layers on the tongue with sweet, succulent apricot with hints of honey and sourdough mixed within.

As the sweetness quickly dissolves, its the piquant tang of apricot that lead the way. Juicy, slight with tar and jam, the sour ale underneath breaks through with its sour taste of dry cider, peppery white wine, gooseberry, crabapple, lemon and lime. The barrels apply an oaken nutty taste with hints of cork, cellar funk and a kiss of horsehair in rapid retro-olfactory sensations.

Medium light in body, the premiere sourness of the ale trends sharp with citrus and tropical fruit peel. Clean acidity pangs away at the tastebuds, obliterating any sense of thirst. Refreshing, crisp and dry, the ale trails with fruit rollup and oak aged chardonnay in a medium quick aftertaste.

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a Duvel tulip glass.

Appearance: Pours a very hazy amber orange. Moderate amount of bubbles and a slight finger of white head that quickly fades away.

Smell: A sour, fruity, and funky aroma with a scent of apricot, citrus, and brett. Upfront sour and funky scent of brett lacto yeast. Big scent of apricot along with other citrus hints of orange, mango, lemon, and tangerine. Also some fruit hints of pineapple, green apple, and white grape. Nice hints of oak. Malt hints of wheat, grains, and cracker. A very good zesty aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a sour, fruity, and funky taste with notes of apricot, citrus, and brett. Good sour, funky, and moderately tart notes of brett lacto yeast. Big taste of apricot along with citrus notes of mango, orange, tangerine, and lemon. More fruit notes including green apple, pineapple, white grape, and pear. Notes of oak. Malt notes of wheat, grains, straw, and cracker. A pretty good taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Crisp, juicy, and smooth.

Overall: A very good fruity Sour. Good mix of sour yeast and citrus fruit.

Was not expecting this beer to be so good.
A very solid sour if you like Cascade or any of the yellow tangy sours that rate 4 to 5 this will not disappoint.
Looks yellow to orange, smells light fruit, Tastes great very tangy no straight apricot, feel bubbly and smooth,
Hope I can find more to share.

A - Pours a dark orange body, somewhat hazy but still transparent, with a cola-like white head that fades away to nothing. No lacing.

S - Primarily funk and minerality, a limestone core with fruity highlights.

T - Sourness is foremost, with an apricot kick, a mild core, and a sharp bright finish.

M - Very brisk carbonation, mild weight, subtle slickness.

O - Well built, a tasty and sharp sour. Delivers solidly on all cylinders but seems a bit basic.

Poured from a Jan '17 22oz bottle into a tulip glass

It is a murky/turbid glowing dark/burnt orange color. Virtually no head other than a little fizziness.

It smacks you in the nose with apricot. Really not much else other than a bit of acidic vinegar and a slight mustiness. Mostly all fruit.

It is one sour beast. Not for the faint of heart. A sharp, crisp acidic bite up front with some apple cider, musty oak, and then the apricot which still dominates and lingers.

It has a medium body with minimal carbonation, but it is plenty crisp from the funky bretts.

Solid beer overall though the sourness could be disled back a little.

Getting a lot of oak..then apricots and funk on the scent. Peachy flavor, very tart and very dry. Extremely tasty and tart brew. Fits the bill on the style. Would def have again.
