Hazy orange body, almost no head. Fairly obvious ginger aroma. The taste is tart & slightly salty, a beautiful mixture of ginger, lemon & grain, maybe some oak flavors but not much. Despite the lack of a head, the remaining carbonation & ginger provide enough entertainment for the tongue. Great flavor & ever greater thirst quencher.

Had this at the Bistro barrel aged festival. Didn't even know it was bottled. Pours a yellow/golden/light orange kind of color, white head in the 1/3" range. Definitely some ginger on the nose. Not much else to it.

Taste, plenty of ginger, which I'm not a fan of, but in some beers (rare barrel) it works, and this is one of them. There is a little bit of lemon, white whine and green apple/grape at play here. Pretty easy drinking, probably right in the average range on the sourness scale. For awhile Winco was getting Avery's barrel program beers for $10. They went away, but if this one came back, I'd easily buy it at that price point. Its an easy drinker. Well carbonated. Its not quite Sourtooth Tiger good, but at half the price, I imagine I'd opt for this one instead.

First off a very good sour. Hits all the right notes without making me pucker. Ginger is spot on. Super heavy on the nose but blends nicely with the tart floral sour.

I just had the pleasure of cracking this one open and I must say I could not have asked for a better balance of flavors. It pours a little thick and hazy, with a nice golden hue to it. Almost amber, but not quite. Smell came off with an acidity and mild ginger. Nothing too special about the smell. That taste, however, was amazing. Super tart, acidic, and very prominent on the ginger. Usually ginger doesn't translate into beer very well (see New Belgium Tartastic or Lefthand Good Juju) but it seems Avery have figured that out. The feel was thick and juicy, very smooth. Overall I loved every sip of this one. Highly recommend.

On draught at Frontier Brewing Company and Taproom. Pours a hazy orange with small head of foam that quickly shrinks. No lacing. Smells tart, apple cider vinegar, wine like tannins, oak, spicy ginger. Taste is apple cider vinegar, tannins, woody oak, ginger is mostly in the finish. Hints of funk. Fairly light bodied with medium carbonation. Excellent.

Appearance: Pours a burnt orange with a head that settles to a film and then fizzes away like a receding wave at the shoreline; no lacing

Smell: Fresh ginger tones with a citrusy aspect

Taste: The ginger is dominant, and intermingles with the pithy citrusy before being overwhelmed by the sour element; puckery and gingery in the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied but flat

Overall: An interesting use of the ginger adjunct but I wouldn't have it twice

The botanicals and barrels are quickly becoming the folly of the Avery brewing team. Journeying though the asian inspired taste of spicy and sour, a gravitating and irresistible ale pulls from those barrels and delights the senses with a bright and fruity session.

Ginger Sour pours with a hazy golden color and capped with an arid and mildly spritzy froth. Highly floral and herbal, the scent of ginger is paramount on the senses. A light musty sour twinge lurks in the background with a host of fruit beckon. Supple with sweetness, a hint of sourdough and honey rest upon the tongue while a sense of candied ginger come to mind.

And then the ale explodes on the middle palate. Fresh ginger sells the praises of a dry ginger ale extremely well. Backed with the sourness of dry french cider, sparkling white wine and a kiss of rice wine vinegar all work to keep those asian influences close at hand. Cantaloup, orange and pear resonate in the recesses of taste while the herbal bite of light hops and spice mingle for a peppery fresh finish.

Medium light on the palate, the ale retains a mild starchy creaminess although the session trends dry, crisp, clean and strikingly refreshing. A linger of potpourri acts like pickled ginger while a certain spiciness of gin and tonic delight the after palate once more.

22 oz. Bomber
Green Foil/Capped
Bottled On: 06/14/17
ABV: 7.7%

Poured into a tulip a pretty nice hazy orangy color, pretty nice carbonation, with a quick/fizzy/small off-white head, which leaves minimal sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, yeasty, with some pretty nice ginger, some tart/sourness, oaky, some funk. The taste is pretty nice, malty, yeasty, funky, nice touch of ginger, nice oak note. Medium body, ABV hidden pretty well, with a nice dry/bitter finish. Overall, a pretty tasty brew. Nice take on the style.

I used this as a lawnmower beer on a hot day. Wound up drinking the whole 22 oz bottle!!! Pours a light copper, fairly clear color with a small fizzy white head that fades fast. Minimal lacing. The ginger and the sourness both hold their own in both aroma and flavor. The ginger tastes like fresh ginger, not some powdery additive. The sourness is moderate like many American wild ales. Neither flavor dominates the other although both are robust, each is complementary of the other. Mouthfeel is crisp, with a little bite from the ginger, and sour. I really liked this beer. Very refreshing summer drink. I probably won't use it to hydrate the next time!!!

On tap. Poured out a clear, golden-orange color with a small, white head foam. It smelled so strongly of ginger, like so strong! Ginger flavor was less strong but balanced by the potent sourness.

A: Bright orange coloring with no head formation. Extremely faint and isolated nature of carbonation bubbles. Medium dense clarity.

S: Aroma bursts of ginger and apricots. Spicy chai and spicy wildflowers, curaco oranges that blends with a smooth lemon-orange sourness. Candy sweet medicinal alcohol scents with final thoughts of peach and fresh floral hops. Sourness detection is low.

T: Flavor delivers a tangy tart grapefruit-lemon sourness, worthy of puckering and eye squinting goodness. Nice level of respect even for the hard core without being overbearing. Loads of ginger delivers a spicy bite. Sweet and sour fruitiness oranges, lemons and a medicinal sweetness. Oaky woody is sweet with some wildflowers and wet floral hops along with some saffron, citronella and lemon grass spicing. The finish finds some honey wildflowers and ginger bombing.

M: Strong malt support, honey consistency, thick and heavy, with a surprising amount of edgy carbonation tingle around the tongues edges. Acidic bite with lemony-orange ginger spice overtaking the tongue.

O: Big puckering sourness and ginger spiciness makes a favorable first impression. Very good drink ability, strong sourness per style, but still very smooth and eloquently brewed. If you are not a fan of ginger, you may steer clear of this, this has an overly abundant amount of spicing and is forefront, rather background complimentary.
