(12 oz can, canned on 07/18/17... poured into a Belhaven pint)

L: clear, chestnut-brown liquid; foam sizzling on pour, leaves thin collar, lace slips and breaks apart

S: brazil nut, chocolate-covered wafer (after bite, and wafer stank blending w/ choc); maybe tiny hint of light molasses sweetness... undertone of earthy hops, but this is not a hop-forward brew (at this point...) ... great brown toasty malt intensity, inviting

T: vague root-beer(?)-like herbal and (soft drink) sweet notes, moderate fruity esters, hint of chocolate chip in aftertaste... little residual sweetness, sandy asphalt earthiness; lingering dried-leaf-y bitterness, faint roasty and caramelized notes

F: touch of slippery, silky viscosity in its taut body; the soft liveliness to its carbonation... pleasant blend of sludge and sizzle

O: bold, deep-toasted bready malts and balanced hopping give this just about the ideal taste for an American brown ale... I often forget about this beer, seldom look for it, but it seems like something I'd probably wouldn't mind having around at the back of the fridge

Very dark brown with a tan head. Caramel plus aroma, but nothing clearly identifiable. Same with the taste. Very pleasing caramel with hints of more, but not sure what. Full bodied, strong (but not bitter) on the tongue. A very satisfying example of one of my favorite styles.
