Notes: Stout aged in Bourbon and whiskey barrels with fresh orange peel, cacao nibs, and cardamom.

Cracked, whacked, and unwrapped; smashing hints of chocolate and orange in the freshest of Bourbon and whiskey barrels.

Oh my. What a great beer! Bought this on a lark, based on Avery’s reputation. VERY expensive, however… $16 for a 12 Oz bottle!. PLEASE let this warm up into the mid-50s and drink it out of a snifter! I KNOW you’ll try it cold, but trust me… wait.
A - Dark Ink, with nice head
S – Orange, cacao, mint, slight bourbon
T – Dark chocolate, orange peel, minty (cardamom) complex. No burn!
M – Smooth and silky – just like I remember
O – What a pleasant surprise! If this were regularly available (at an affordable price) I’d buy it all the time. Fantastic melding of orange peel, dark chocolate, mint, and teasing bourbon. Hard to believe that the 15.7% alcohol doesn’t burn at all. Very smooth. One of the best BIG stouts I’ve had the pleasure to enjoy!

12oz bottle. Poured out an opaque, oil black color with a small, off-white head of foam. It smelled of orange, bourbon, whiskey and chocolate. Sweet orange taste with a strong whiskey taste. Nice chocolate notes with bourbon.

12 oz bottle from Macadoodles in Branson, MO. $8.99 a bottle. Much cheaper than here in expensive South Dakota.
15.7% Alcohol, December 6th, 2019 bottle date.
Odell snifter. Let's go.

Deep inky black with a creamy beige head of 1/2 finger, receding to a thick fingernail, leaving lace on the glass.

Aroma is of mint and orange, and some cardamom. Coming off like a sort of orange burst flavored milk of magnesia.

Flavor brings dried orange peel and cacao nibs straight away, followed by mint leaf. Some bourbon barrel creeps in as well with menthol.

Feel is thick and slick, with some real heat to it, not unexpected. Finish is burning and dry.

Overall, Avery has done much better with their gold foil beers. I'd say this is in the top three worst I've had from them out of a dozen. Price considered, this is a stinker - unless you like drinking Maalox and chewing orange rinds.

Opaque dark brown (nearly black body) with a thin yet lasting head (dense and frothy). Smell of mint and dark chocolate. An interesting taste combination: mint/citrus, milk chocolate and cocoa; whiskey edge. Heavy mouthfeel with a slightly airy feel at the finish; velvety; prominent alcohol warmth.

I love the strange yet appealing combination of aroma, taste and even the mouthfeel with this beer. I read that cardamom can have a menthol-like flavor. That probably explains my sensation of mint with this beer. The orange is pretty well hidden in the grand scheme of things. Regardless, this beast combines some fine elements into one tasty sumbitch of a beer.
