Mango colour with a generous two inch head. Substantial lacing that makes me wipe my finger in the glass to peel out every last crust of sea foam.

Aroma is bigger malt on the front with a mellifluous tropical floral arrangement. Of course we can't forget Mr. Pine. Caramel wafting among biscuity components.

Hopped up bitterness blended well with the denser tropical fruits creating a desired dankness. The malt sweetness quickly balances the entire taste experience.

Full bodied like the Sabrina sultress laying the debut on the label. Oily hop resin with floral hop in the nose. Layered almost impeccably. Long dry hop finish. A nice sticky dryness. I love the fact that this is not toot sweet yet sticky enough in other words not a palate wrecker.

Fantastic double IPA with a comforting unobtrusive ABV. Great balance, a quality craft and great marketing label. Stands with the best of them. Well done craft at 95 IBU. I will buy again.

Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #34 (Nov 2009):

Pale orangey color with a mild haze, solid crowning of head from a stiff pour. The aroma is so hoppy that citric and mint hold the nose hard. Smooth medium body drops a deep smoothness, malt stays strong with bready and biscuit flavor to start ... then the hops come. Bitterness rides that fine line between aggressive and simply being on top as it lets the malt flavors through yet slowly pummels the palate with a carefully gauged bitterness of citric peel and wildflowers. Sure, there is a touch of heat in the throat from the alcohol, even some ripe tropical fruit, but it does not rise above the hops. Orange peel, peaches and passion fruit on the palate. Finishes bitter with a breath of alcohol and mint from the hops.

My oh my, Avery has found the true path of hop brilliance.

Bottled on 277th day of 2011.

A: Bronze hue, huge tan head. Recedes into a thin cap of foam after a minute or so.

S: Pine, peaches, lavender. Almost like potpourri.

T: Pine, floral hops dominate. Lite citrus and herbal hops linger on the aftertaste. Not getting much malt flavor, a real hop bomb.

M: Slightly medicinal with some honey cough drop action going on.

O: Not the best Avery has done, but worth at least a try.

A - Dark copper with a half finger of white lacing that stays around around. Lacing is good. Lots of visible carbonation rising up.

S - Pineapple, grapefruit, overall citrus aroma. Very sweet smelling. A little alcohol tingles the nose.

T - Big malt base, very unexpected since it wasn't at all noticeable in the aroma. Bready, caramel malts blend well with earthy and citrus hops. Bitterness is very well represented, and equally balanced.

M - Very smooth. Sweet, but not sticky. Bitterness coats the mouth, the finish is sweet and slightly dry with hints of lemon and grapefruit.

O - Love it. Very well balanced, finish is amazing, perfect for the price range.

Pours a slightly hazy deep amber. Pretty a head as you'd ever want to see: a multiplicity of bubble sizes comprise a deep meringue, with world-class cling. The mild aroma is grapefruity and piney. The taste is that of surprisingly refined, understated, but forthright, hoppiness. This is a dignified IPA to be reckoned with (and enjoyed!).

Poured into a perfect pint glass.

A. Pale golden yellow with an off white head that doesn't last too long.

S. A bit muted, but very promising. Fresh piney hops, some citrus, a bit floral, maybe a touch of mint. No discernible malt in the nose.

T. Pretty much hops all the way but with a distinctive and subdued sweetness that strikes a nice balance. Plenty of lingering bitterness.

M. Medium-bodied, slightly oily, strong carbonation.

O. Considering the number of times I've drunk this beer both on tap and from the bottle I'm surprised I haven't reviewed it before. A definite winner from Avery, just a notch or two down from Maharaja, but what isn't?

Nice amber color with an off-white head.
Smells more American IPA-like than the flavor. Really appealing citrus - floral hoppy aroma. Flavors and mouthfeel are really more like a American barleywine. Malty, bitter, and boozy. Lucky, I love barleywines. Piney hops work really well in this beer. Satisfying ABV. It was a bit pricey for what it is, but definitely good beer from a good brewing company.

22oz bottle $6.49. Nice golden color, clear, sticky lacing on the glass. It smells dank. Piney, herbal, grass, and dank aromas, nice but then oddly stinky like a cat box. The flavor starts out as more of the same and exactly what was promised on the label, brutally bitter, piney, good at first but then it shows a bit of pepper and garlic, parmesan cheese. I get the same flavor from Green Flash DIPA and I just can't dig it. This is definitely a hop-bomb but the profile is just not for me.

Before anything I have to note how aromatic this beer is. Wow! Cloudy amber and a minor white head. Flavors are bready malt and strong herbal hops for an effective balance. The toasty malt flavors really linger. Aromas are all malt breadiness. Can definitely sense the alcohol, and hiding behind that I quickly had a sense that I was chewing on either raw hops or bud...i'll call it "floral". Crisp and tons of bitterness left behind. Nice lacing down the glass.

Had on tap at the dilly deli, served in a 10oz snifter.

A- cloudy honey colored brew with lighter shades of orange on the bottom. Initially a nice solid white head with dripping lace. Head disappeared fairly quickly and recedes to a halo of head around the glass.

S- lots of tangy citrus in This one with a decent amount of hop resin. Very fragrant

T- has a nice bitter taste. Starts out very juicy, grapefruit and lime, then the hops are in full effect. Very bitter finish that is semi dry.

M- real nice for a ipa. Coats well with out being too heavy and the medium carbonation is perfect. A Tad try but it just makes you want to drink more.

Overall a very good ipa. I love the bitterness, its bitterness that has flavor. The appearance looks great and a very sniffable beer. Well done Avery!

This is a decent DIPA, but with all the claims about hop-worship, I found the taste a little sweet. The first sip was almost peanut-butter malt, and even though that backed off, it's present throughout. Moderate piney bitterness, some tropical/floral flavors, but all in all, doesn't stand out in a crowded field. Bottle was exactly 2 weeks old.

This poured clear gold with some white head. It smelled like pineapple and grapefruit and herbal hops, with some orange and honey and cream. It tasted like sweet oranges and mango and pineapple, with some grapefruit and lemon and herbal hops, and sweet honey malt. It was somewhat thick with a little carbonation, and had a lasting bitter aftertaste. Overall this is the definition of a hop bomb. It had every hop flavor possible, all delicately brewed together in harmony and balanced with the perfect amount of sweet malts. It had nice body too, and it hid the alcohol well. If you like hops, you should really try to get your hands on a bottle of this stuff. It's just phenomenal.

22 oz bottle, no clear bottling date.

appears a hazy golden orange color, nice white head. great retention and lacing. big hoppy aroma- pine, grapefruit, orange. very pleasant.

taste is also dominated by crisp hop flavors. just enough malt to keep it from being too bitter or dry. lingering aftertaste. body is between thin and medium, very smooth carbonation. drinks nice.

overall - a very good DIPA. Avery comes through again.
