Wow! This was great! Even with a high level of alcohol, it went down nice and smooth. I aged mine a little over a year. I probably could have gone another. If I see this again, I will pick it up for sure.

First Avery beer that I've enjoyed. Usually their giant ABV beers are crazy sugar bomber on my palate, but Tweak was a great coffee and bourbon treat. Definitely didn't drink like 18%

I've had this on tap twice at Father's Office in Santa Monica and decided I would review it briefly as a comparison to Parabola, which I tried and review today. In my opinion, Tweak was better.
Though its alcohol content is higher, the alcohol is more well hidden by the intense flavors, thick mouth feel, and bitterness from the hops. I remember the pour was opaque jet black. There was an intoxicating aroma of chocolate and coffee with a smooth and balanced taste, sweet and bitter. Thick, creamy and a bit oily feel. Sure there was some alcohol burn, but impressively little for over 16%. I couldn't really drink anything else after this… But being so satisfied, why would I want to?

First had 4/6/17 at home. It is jet black with a tan head, and is full bodied with a luxurious mouth feel. Flavors of coffee, sweet malt, and bourbon roll across the tongue, and finishes with a vanilla booziness.

This certainly lived up to its reputation.
It poured a dark brown with a moderately-sized head that left a good deal of lace.
Strong booze aroma. Vanilla, coffee, and oak.
Bourbon taste, strong coffee, a little chocolate, and a bit of vanilla.
You would never know this was 16% ABV.

Surprised myself and drank the whole bottle down in an hour. This stuff was incredibly smooth for a 16% beer. For whatever reason, there wasn't much of a nose on my bottle, just a bit of muted coffee, roasty malt. However, this is a great tasting stout - all of the components are at the same time balanced - and bold. Dark chocolate flavors seamlessly meld with fresh roasted coffee, a bit of brown sugar, burn from the alcohol, finished off with the whisky barrel. Great stuff. Would certainly buy again - but will have to split it next time!

Avery Brewing Company - Tweak [Batch No. 3]. 16% ABV. 12oz bottle poured into a stout glass. Bottled Nov. 14, 2016.

Look: Pours a thick, oily black and settles with a finger thick, light tan head.

Smell: I can smell the bourbon as soon as I started pouring. Coffee, dark chocolate, roast, with a perfume undertone. Notes of caramel, and butterscotch emerged as it warmed.

Feel: Silky smooth, but thick bodied, as expected. Very mild carbonation.

Taste: Bourbon, roasty coffee, and dark chocolate up front, with no trace of boozy alcohol. Sweet caramel and butterscotch come into play on the back end, and pair up with the other flavors, along with a very minor booze aspect.

Overall: Simply amazing. At 16% ABV, I was expecting a boozy bomb, but instead got a perfectly balanced treat. Great presence of bourbon, without the boozy alcohol, balanced by roast coffee, and sweets.
