Style: Pumpkin Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 16.73%

Availability: Fall

Notes / Commercial Description:
We wondered what would happen if a monstrous pumpkin ale, plump full of spicy gourdiness, were aged in fine fresh rum barrels to add suggestions of delicate oak and candied molasses. Rumpkin is what happened! This first member of the Annual Barrel-Aged Series was brewed with roasted pumpkins from a local Boulder County farm, and spiced with nutmeg, cinnamon, and ginger.

On tap at Slater's 50/50 Rancho Cucamonga on 09/15/16. Pours murky dark brown. Huge aroma of Autumn spices, molasses and pumpkin. The taste follows with pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, pie crust, maple, molasses and just a hint of rum. Full bodied with low carbonation.

Update. Opened an aged bottle of the same bottle date below on our July 4th camp trip at 7,000' at Three Creeks Lake. This was awesome! Brought glassware to drink out of and this aged version brought out much of the profile below but lots of rum up front. Had to edit my taste stats because it was so good!

Had the Sep 09, 2015 bottled batch @ 18%. Very tasty imperial pumpkin, yet another great beer from one of the best breweries (some of their equipment is from Oregon as we saw during the brewery tour). Get a lot of bread, malt, spices, pie crust, a little pumpkin, vanilla, rum and the warmth of the high ABV. Although not the best imperial pumpkin, still worth getting for the cold winter months. Gather a couple for aging and save one for Thanksgiving and Christmas time as I did. Cheers.

Batch No. 4, bottled 9/22/14. Pours a murky copper, even with a careful pour, lots of sediment suspended in the glass. Fair amount of carbonation and head that quickly disappeared. Smells of rum and dark sugar, plum. Taste is still pretty hot, lots of rum, some spices, hot cinammon, burnt sugar. Good but definitely a sipper. Overall, I let this one age almost 2 years and it's still good and still boozy.

355ml batch 5- Sept, 9, 2015 18% bottle poured into tulip 20/5/16 cheers billverstein for sending the long standing want

A tiny suspended particles in a copper body, lots of big bubbles much to my surprise, the two fingers of foam makes some noise as it quickly fizzles out, some thin legs on the glass and enough carbonation to make it look like a slow boil

S nutmeg, allspice, cinnamon, vanilla, roasted yams and pumpkin, candied ginger, lots of rum barrel, yes there's some booze but for 18% I'd say its fairly well hidden, molasses and hard toffee, more spice, more barrel, smells intense

T it mimics the smell but the booze is cranked up and more wood then rum, its still not drinking like a 18% monster but you definitely know its got some ABV, its like a rum spiked pumpkin beer and its pretty solid

M silky and hot, some tannin like grit, hard to judge mouth-feel when it hits your chest and head before anything, just a little sticky on my numb lips, spicy, woody heat just keep going

O what jacks you up more then steroids? this is a pumpkin beer on whatever that is and then some, powerful, subtle, harsh and gentle all at once, this shit could ruin anyone who let it

Hard to say if this is a little fresh for such a big boy, its drinking well but could probably benefit from a decade under the stairs. Intense all around and well rounded, different and jacked up in every way, seek this one out.

look: Crystal clear orange brown...noble pumpkin i say. Full off white head on the pour that entirely exits.
smell: Aromatic spices, oak and rum brightness and to quote the Avery site, " candied molasses" indeed.
taste: Much like the nose. If Willy Wonka were a lush, he'd make this at every holiday.

Copper orange color. You can see stuff floating around in the bottle. Similar to an aged wine.

Strong aroma of nutmeg and cinnamon.

Tasted like a pumpkin flavored light rum. Boozy. Sweet. Delicious.

Rich and hearty. Definitely a sipper. This can easily replace a desert.

Excellent overall. Not your average pumpkin beer. It's in a league of its own.

Looks like a pumpkin beer would/should, equal parts light brown and orange, looks like fall. Mild 1/3" head, off white. Aroma was sweet, definitely rum.

I don't get all the love for this beer, its overly sweet and boozy. Would like more oak. Just too dominant with rum and pumpkin. Some better spicing and hopping I think would be a significant improvement.
