Served on-draught into a stem-tulip at the Verdugo Bar in Silverlake, Los Angeles. Reviewed from notes taken during Verdugo's anniversary event. Due to the nature of the event (standing room only with few surfaces), I wasn't able to review as in-depth as I'd like. Expectations were high given the brewery and description.

A: Pours a two finger wide head of beige colour. Soft complexion. Fluffy and luscious. Head retention is great - about 6-7 minutes. Smooth texture. Great lacing and "legs" as the head recedes.

Body colour is a cloudy murky yellow. Poor vibrance; it's dull - kind of disheartening for a witbier. Nontransparent. Low translucence. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show.

Sm: Passionfruit, mango, tropical fruit notes abound. Clean malts, wheat, clean barley. Floral and fruity hops. Lightly grassy. Pineapple. Crisp and refreshing as hell. I love the interplay between hops and fruit. A delightful aroma of moderate strength.

No yeast character is detectable. No clove. No alcohol.

T: Passionfruit is obscenely evocative here. Body is comprised largely of clean wheat and barley. Spritzy and refreshing. The floral and fruity hop notes complement the tropical fruit quite brilliantly. Really well balanced. Good complexity for the style; it's a unique approach to a witbier. Well put together. The fruit is a highlight for me personally; masterfully executed. Really a tasty beer with superb depth of flavour.

Mf: Smooth and wet. Refreshing. Excellent execution, with good body and thickness. Complements the flavour profile very well. Quite well done.

Dr: Extremely drinkable. I could happily down this all night, by the growler even. An excellent and unique witbier form Avery. I'd definitely get this again and would recommend it to friends. Hides its ABV very well. Really good stuff. Try it if you see it.

Passion Fruit, Fruity, Tart, Bitter

Cloudy pale yellow with a short-lived, snappy head, Liliko'i Kepolo has a fruity, wheaty, bready and spicy nose. It’s tart and bitter, but not overly acidic. Tropical and juicy with plenty of delicious passion fruit flavors and a tamed sweetness. The bitterness is a bit grassy with a pleasing edge of citrus zest, followed by a dry wheat character, soft spices and some doughiness. The addition of passion fruit is a sublime twist on the Witbier style and it makes for a great tequila back, too.

As reviewed in BeerAdvocate magazine #103 (August 2015).

Look: Cloudy, thick, off yellow color.

Smell: Passion fruit up front hint of sweet smells and wheat.

Taste: Not what I expected. Not so much wheat but you get the spices and passion fruit.

Feel: Felt like a tart saison or even a sour. No where remotely close to a wheat which for me was a good thing.

Overall: Super tasty beer loved it!

LOOKS: Hazy, burnt orange, big foam that lasts a while.
AROMA: Lots of passion fruit, light dried fruit, Granny Smith apples, and an overall Hefe vibe.,
TASTE: Tart, wine like, wheaty, lots of green apple, pear, and passion fruit.
FEEL: Soft, bright carbonation, medium thin feel, fairly dry on the finish.
OVERALL: Nice tart and sweet brew. Be great on a warm summer day.

Off the bat this is a super fruity smelling and tasting beer - I guess that's why they call it a "fruit beer". If you love Blue Moon I am sure you'll love this beer - if you love Arrogant Bastard I am sure you'll hate this beer. The overall flavor is like a Lemon Head infused wheat beer - big sour apple notes and some tropical fruits. Not bad if you love white wheat beers. The can has a super cool tiki theme which is partly why I picked this one up. Check it out if you're a big fan of the Belgium Wheat style beers.

Fresh can into a wheatbeer glass. Not a lot of froth or head; minimal carbonation. Color is a lovely clouded yellowish thing. It's a very still beer. Once in a glass, it doesn't move. smells great, tastes excellent. I'll buy more.

Bought at Kroger's @ Swift Creek - Midlothian, Va 10/1/16. Date on bottom of can 9/3/16 (less than a month old!). 6 pack of cans was $12 plus tax! Amazing find! Poured a cloudy and hazy yellow gold and PUNCH you in the face Fruit, coriander and maybe a little bready malt. Awesome taste - passion fruit and medium amount of tartness but still later the malt (but not much!). Great combo and balance! Under-rated beer! Delicious break from the usual Hop Bombs! Can't recommend this beer enough - Absolutely best summer crush beer! Home Run Guys! Creamy and clean finish in the mouth. One of the best fruit beers I ever had! Beautiful!

On tap at Avery. Pours a slightly-hazed yellow-straw color. Light passion fruit. Quite fruity. Subtle, but absolutely there. Delicious. Super drinkable; had to get a second glass of this one.

Bright yet opaque golden in color with just a wisp of foam. Can't say that I know what passion fruit smells like but this beer brings tropical fruit such as Guava and mango to mind. Sweet fruit is balanced with just a bit of sourness. Creamy mouthfeel with a clean finish. Highly drinkable.

12 ounce can served into an oversized snifter.

Pours like pineapple juice and looks like such, cloudy and heavily frothy. Sticky lacing. 4.5

It smells like sticky, pungent fruit. Certainly passionfruit but also something like pineapple. There's wheat and coriander or some similar spice there. 4.25

Tart flavor arrives, passionfruit and pineapple continue, and there's a wheat and coriander lingering finish. 4

Tart, light, and then a wheaty, malty feel towards the finish offers more body.

This is refreshing and flavorful. Great summer beer. Love that it's in cans. Hard not to like this beer on any account.

Liliko'i Kepolo pours a hazy cloudy bright golden color, with a small head; looks like orange juice. Aroma is with lots of tropical notes, big hints of the tropical fruit. Taste very tropical, lots of sweet tropical fruit. A little flat but good feel. Overall, big natural tropical beer.

Smells like pineapple and mango juice and doesn't taste too much different. What a tasty beer. Not exactly my sort of thing, but it still works... all I think it needs is a bit of coconut to make it a pina colada beer.

This beer has a very nice sweet start and tart finish that makes it easily likable. The finish is a little biscuity with only a little bit of Witbier-like essence -- which I like, personally, as Witbiers are really one of my least favorite styles...

Anyway, delicious. I'm surprised this isn't more popular.
