Poured from a bomber into a tasting glass.

A: Clear, brassy golden color with less than one finger of diminishing off-white foam head. Heavy lacing remains on the glass.

S: Dark citrus slightly exceeds tropical fruit and a funky dankness that is suggestive of Simcoe hops involvement. Hops qualities are restrained overall, compared to the taste. No alcohol is detected.

T: Begins very off-dry, with husky malt and rich aromatics of fresh hops pellets and ripe nectarine. Dark citrus flavors emerge into the middle as sweetness increases and alcohol comes on strong. The finish is fairly bitter for style, but really fresh tasting with a lot of latent dark citrus.

M: Medium viscosity, very resinous and slightly syrupy and acidic on the palate, with moderate carbonation.

D/O: An inspired DIPA--this is huge and hops-driven, yet focused so as not to seem a mess. Worthy of a 20th anniversary celebration. It would be interesting to drink this beer side-by-side with Stone Ruin Ten.

Okay, so what's a dIPA suppose to be? Hoppy and malty, right? Along those lines this beer delivers.
Bottled in May, drank in May. How's that for freshness mofos!

Orange/copper clean and clear pour. A subtle head ticks points off this rating. Slick lacing.

Aroma is hoppy at first. Kind of has three main hop aromas: citrus, pine and onion. Where's the tropical? Oh well. The hops are dragged back in by a dollop of malt, which makes the aroma seem resiny and thick

Hops are all over this bad boy. They seem to fight rather than play nicely. Citrus and pine duke it out while onion nestles in the background. Caramel malt and the sweetness poke up their heads to say hi and leave a filminess about them. Don't really like that aspect. Fits the category, just for me a crisp dryness does the trick.

A big beer for 20 years.

Bottled May 2013

Pours an effervescent amber/copper with 3 fingers of egg-shell colored head. Insane lacing & head retention

S: Bready, leafy hops, pine & mango

T: Pineapple, breadyness, pineyness & leafy hops up front. Leafy hops, grapefruit & a little bit of breadyness & pears as this warms, a little bit of orange peel as well. Finishes with pineapple, grapefruit & leafiness with a touch of passion fruit, plus a bit of cattyness

MF: Chewy, low carbonation, pretty good balance

A good DIPA would've loved to try this fresh, but pretty darn hoppy as it is. Pretty good, liked this better than some of the more recent Anniversary offerings. Drinks pretty easy, despite the ABV

Light brown in color off of the pour. A very light bit of foam remains after the pour. The nose is a faint but it is definitely all about the hops. Faint but apparent grapefruit hops on the nose. The flavoring is all hops with the grapefruit and slightly orange flavor. The hops are what you get in the aftertaste and there is a nice hop fade on the tongue. A pretty brisk mouthfeel and it is fairly refreshing. Very well done.

A - Very clear orange with a fluffy white head and plenty of sticky lacing.

S - Pine, grapefruit, citrus with a slightly sweet background. Some tropical fruits also appear.

T - Grapefruit and orange peel, tropical fruit, light pine as it warms, melon. Resiny hops with a honey like sweetness.

M - Good carbonation. Big and sticky DIPA leaving some hop oils behind.

D - Very tasty. Glad I stumbled upon this in MKE since I don't think Avery is in WI.

Frothy, sticky yellow-white head on a reddish-golden body.

Nose is sweet and tart hops. Grapefruit, lemon and a little mango.

Flavor is tart, juicy and fruity. Super light malt body, with just enough residual sweetness to give it a minimal backbone. Hops are certainly front and center, but not really bitter. Huge flavor and aroma, low on bittering, I would guess.

Mouthfeel is tart, zesty, slightly stripping and sticky.

Overall, this is a great beer. I am a big fan of the Maharajah, and this seems to be cut from the same cloth.
