Decided to make my way up to Avery after GABF 2009. I know, I know, it has been awhile, but I will always remember this place.

The atmosphere is good. The indoor area is less a bar and more has a bar and places to sit. Basically - it's a bar in their brewery where their lobby would have been. I'm ok with that, it's laid back and the view outside is gorgeous.

The quality and selection of beers was out of this world. I think Avery is a decent brewery, but I was amazed by what they had on tap. They had experimental beers, older anniversary beers, barrel aged versions of beers. I was really very impressed. But WHY DON'T THEY RELEASE MORE OF THESE EXCEPTIONAL BEERS? They do have some very good beers they've released, but I feel like they could do much, much better.

The service was also outstanding. Everyone there knew a lot about all of the beers they had and were willing to talk about them.

Update: Visit during 2011 GABF
I visited Avery again on the Sunday after GABF 2011. I was not nearly as impressed as the previous visit. The servers seemed less knowledgeable, the re-design of the pub made it seem less brewery and more pub/restaurant, and the overall vibe wasn't nearly as good. I really enjoyed the raw, brewery feeling of the pub pre-re-design. I'm sure this had something to do with sitting in the back of the place instead of ordering from the bar and the place was by no means bad or even average, but I was certainly disappointed. This was at the time of my first visit my favorite brewery experience. It has dropped quite a few places.

Avery, if you can make it, is an amazing brewery with a fantastic layout. The selection is superb, and the New American style food if you are hungry, hits the spot. There are three main locations to drink in, but if you can, come on a not so busy night and sit at the main bar when you walk in. The other 2 rooms (lower room and smaller wet bar through the "factory tour") are fine, but the real Avery experience is in the main room. While the location can be out of the way at times, especially if you are not from Boulder, Avery is well worth it.

OK, I'm an easy grader, but Avery is definitely a great pub to visit, the beer is great (although not all of their beers are equally great, some are fantastic), we had a great meal there and loved their apricot and ginger sours. The beer we liked the least was Maharaja, which used to be one of the highest rates IPAs!
