Visited Avery on a recent trip to Colorado. Went on the tour and sampled about seven beers. It was a Saturday, so I want to preface what I am about to say by saying that I understand that the place was busy because it was the weekend, BUT I must say, I have been to many breweries and many bars in my life and I have never in all my life had service as appallingly horrific as I did at their taproom.

Absolutely godawful, shameful even. There were two servers for the entire place, one full time bartender, one table server. The bartender, an unfriendly Scot (or Irishman?), kept me waiting for literally 20 minutes (I timed it out of curiosity) each and every time I walked up to the bar to order another beer. And the guy moved like molasses.

He gave preferential treatment to orders from the tables, which meant that he basically had his back to the everyone at the bar the entire time, ignoring us sad sacks who had come, cash in hand, to sample their only product--what fools! When he did, at long last, bark at you for your order, he did it in a curt, aggressive, almost demeaning way that suggested you were not worth his time and were lucky for the lack of service.

I always thought that the brewery visit/tour was the ultimate in PR for these breweries, large and small, the physical embodiment of who they are and what they stand for, but now I understand it works the other way too. Far from indoctrinated, I left this visit with a bad taste in my mouth for all things Avery, and it wasn't just the mediocre beer.

A little piece of advice fellas: hire some more waitstaff, even if it's just on the weekends. Your customers (you know, the ones who pay the bills?) will thank you.

Avery's always been a bit of a sleeper brewery for me - you know they're there, and you know they're good, but they just don't seem to get the hype that many lesser breweries seem to get. I made my third visit to Avery on August 14 and my respect for this place has gone up every time. They've got an upstairs restaurant with great food, a downstairs taproom, and a large outdoor seating area - they can handle a huge crowd here and yet they've been close to full all three times I've been. Perhaps the most impressive thing about Avery is how many styles they do really well - hoppy beers, Belgians, and sours are all top notch, not too mention a stout lineup that I'd put up against any brewery on the planet. The tap wall contains 30-ish selections with their common stuff along with tap room only selections. All-in-all this place is easily on my top 5 beer destinations list!

This is a must stop in Colorado. While not all their beers will appeal to everyone, they have a fabulous ever changing selection that is high quality. Extra bonus is that their food is some of the best you could find at a brewery.

Awesome place and can't say enough good things about it. I was so impressed by the wide variety of beers all of which are very well done. That's rare for a brewery. The sours, IPAs and especially the Calligyian stout were all fantastic. The servers were knowledgeable and everyone from the servers to the gift shop girl were very friendly. Can't wait to go back.

Beer always awesome. Food a little spendy, but good.

First off the tour is terrible! Save yourself time and just do the self guided tour. Very cool building and great selection of taps. The outside prior needs to be bigger. Just a very busy place.

What a great place to stop by, the tours are very informative. If you are the spur the moment type and don't want a full on tour, they have a catwalk which is easily accessible and allows direct viewing access to their brewing and lab. It's pretty darn neat.

The food is awesome, albeit on the expensive side. If you are a fan of meat, especially smoked meat, try the Meat, meat, meat. Everything is great and they try hard to locally source their food.

At any given time they have a TON of beer to try, from barrel projects to go-to favorites, to odd takes on those favorites as well.

It gets pretty busy during peak hours, and the service seems to suffer (understandably) and it's fairly loud as well. More room would have been great, especially for special releases.

Overall it's a top notch place to go and have good food and good beer, also very informative if you take the tour. Not an everyday place however, more of a special occasion place.

Avery is located on the outskirts of Boulder (about 30 minutes from Denver). Its a fairly large location with both a large bar area and a restaurant.

The taproom has quite a few of their beers on tap. If you love hot beers, this is the place for you (a lot of >15% beers). Pretty darn good brewer. I wish the service was a bit better though.

Avery has a rocking brewery going on. Extremely busy, with staff that work as a team to get shit done. Service was hit and miss since they were so busy, but they were working as hard as they could. A must visit brewery.
