3rd Wave Brewing Co. "Sandstorm"
12 oz. brown glass bottle, "BTLD 08/03/15"
$1.99 @ Atlantic Liquors, Rehoboth Beach, DE

Decent enough Belgian-style Tripel with a bit of spice, yeasty chalkiness, and fruit that has depth as well as an edge of sharpness (berries, apple, cherry, mango, papaya, pineapple).

Pours a slightly hazy, bright golden color. A placid looking creamy head displays great retention and lots of sticky lacing.
The aroma does not open particularly strongly. However, a bready malt aroma soon develops, as does fruity notes of white grape, citrus and melon. A touch of light coriander and floral hops rounds out the aroma.
The taste is fruity and sweet with notes of orange marmalade, melon and lots of honey malt. There is also a light vinous quality with flavors of white grape. Some bitterness develops with notes of grassy and floral hops flavors. Furthermore, peppery spices and coriander aid to balance the sweetness.
Medium to full bodied, smooth and creamy, along with a gentle carbonation.
I thought this one was pretty solid and tasty for the style and deserving of better ratings.

Pours a slightly hazy golden yellow with moderate head and fair retention.
Smell is yeast, banana and spice.
Taste follows the nose. Yeasty, fruity and somewhat sweet.
Not too aggressive a Belgian.

Clear golden pour with a white head. Aroma of pepper, yeast, and banana. Flavor has a bit of alcohol initially followed by grain, spice (light pepper and coriander), and bread flavors.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a dark golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is mild, light bananas, malts. Taste is alcohol, yeast, some spices, a bit of numbing of the tongue. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall, not horrible, but not very good either.

Brilliantly clear, golden pour with a white, creamy head that sees some lacing. Good looking beer.

Not much on the nose, but the palate is rich and creamy. Honey sweetness with light notes of banana and clove. Floral, golden raisins and a little hay. Pretty nice, but I wish that lightly hoppy "hay" note was amped up on the finish to dry things out. Finishes a little sweet.

$ 2.03 (Including tax)/12 oz can ($ 0.169/oz) at State Line Liquors, Elkton, MD
Undated bottle at 42 degrees into a hand washed and dried JK snifter
Aroma – yeasty with some spiciness
Head large (Maximum 5.2 cm, aggressive pour), white, frothy, and dense with some rocks on top. Average retention diminishing to tight two mm ring and thin layer with large rocky island
Lacing poor. A couple of large frothy drag marks with mostly tiny bubbles and a few tiny islands
Body – clear yellow, effervescent
Flavor – first taste was slightly bitter but as the brew warmed up slightly that disappeared. Yeast phenolics, some spiciness (a hint of coriander and cardamom, some pepper) , just slightly sweet; no hops, no malt, no diacetyl. No alcohol in the flavor or aroma, but some stomach warming taking place.
Palate – medium, almost creamy, lively carbonation

Overall, a decent attempt to reproduce a Belgian tripel. A good value considering the price point.

On first sip this beer delivers a yeasty backbone and a light/creamy mouthfeel. On the backend it has a tang to it. I tangy flavor that works with the light creamy mouthfeel. To me the flavor is just a little bit off in terms of a Tripel. I wish I could pick up more fruit flavors. I think this is ok, but not a legendary tripel. Try drinking Allagash's Tripel Ale. There is something just perfect with that beer. I know I can't expect every tripel to be THAT good, but they made something perfect in that recipe.

Poured into a shaker pint glass: color is light straw, translucent but not yeasty, head is white with small bubbles that presents about 1/2 inch thick and then dissipates into a top.

Smell is yeasty, malty, light biscuit, some fruit.

Taste is similar to the aroma with solid malty base, with biscuit prominent and then some yeast backbone with fruity yeast byproducts, solid tripel flavor, could use a bit dryer finish.

Mouthfeel is a bit chalky and full on the tongue, not over carbonated but strong lingering presence on the tongue.

Overall a sweeter tripel, but some quality yeast flavors and moderate maltiness.
