On tap. Poured out an opaque, jet-black color with a small, off-white head of foam. It smelled of strong coffee, chocolate and toffee. Big bold coffee taste with chocolate, toffee and caramel.

Dark as a moonless night, almost no carbonation? Smell is of caramel and black coffee. Tasty but not overpowering, goes down easy. Kind of a quiet brew. I would partake again for sure but it's a beer that sets a mood.

A very nice porter all the way around. Taste, smell and feel, are very good. They just need to distribute more. I noticed the ABV listed as 8.75. however the beer I had was marked 8. I purchased mine in 12 ounce cans. You need to be careful though, as i failed to notice one can was dented and it exploded when I removed it from the holding clip. Not happy about that, but still a very nice porter indeed. Of note, very smooth tasting, did not have any taste or smell of alcohol but the 8% was there.

Poured from a 12 OZ can into a pint glass. The appearance is a black colored beer with a dark tan head. The aroma is roasted malt and coffee. The taste follows the nose. An excellent beer.

L: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a black color and a thick texture. There was a big, tan-colored, foamy, long-lasting head. Good lacing.

S: An okay aroma of coffee, malt, and chocolate. Not overpowering, but subtly good.

T: Tasted of some coffee, a good amount of cocoa, malt, light grassy hops, and a creamy quality in the finish. The flavor has its flaws - the advertised coffee isn't quite forceful enough - but it is enjoyable. Smooth and creamy.

F: A good amount of carbonation with a silky finish. Medium-bodied.

O: While this is an uneven beer, it still has some likable qualities. It's surprisingly easy to drink, especially considering the ABV%.

"This year's version of our winter seasonal is an Imperial Coffee Stout brewed with El Salvador Bella Vista supplied from our friends at PERC Coffee Roasters here in Savannah, Georgia! Our latest rendition of this coffee brew features notes of brown sugar, chocolate, caramel, and a subtle hint of orange. At almost 9% this roasty treat is perfect for a cold winter's day. So come on baby, gonna take a little ride." Brewed in the style of an American Imperial Stout with Coffee added. Available in 22 oz. bottles and on limited draft.

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle to a snifter glass.

(Appearance) Pours a foamy frothed head of a medium cocoa brown tone over a near black body. Retention is good and there is some slight lacing. 4

(Smell) Caramel bread malts, chocolate grains, toasted sugars, tangy citrus juices, and lightly acidic coffee bean notes. Potency is medium. 3.5

(Taste) Smooth milk chocolate flavors up front with a lightly toasted caramel syrup undertone and a mildly roasted malt. Not much flavor from the coffee, which fades away behind the roasted malt notes, but the orange zest creates an unusual tanginess that smooths out potentially harsher graininess for a juicier finish. 3.75

(Mouthfeel) Texture is creamy, slick, modestly syrupy, medium dry. Carbonation is medium, generating a medium frothiness and a moderately crisp finish. Body is shy of medium for the style, medium/heavy overall. Balance is slightly sweet and acidic/tangy over roasted malt and grain characters. Alcohol presence is mild and there are no off characters overall. 3.75

(Overall) An interesting stout that waffles between a milk stout standard and an American Imperial, but comes off decidedly enjoyable, if not outstanding. The inclusion of orange flavor is a curious distraction from what I would have expected to be the central focus of this beer- coffee, which is largely underrepresented and difficult to detect. A tasty and enjoyable stout but not very well focused on what I would have expected from the style, which holds it held back from other reputable local options . 3.75

A: Dark, black, opaque, large, thick light brown head, dissipates very slowly

S: Chocolate, burnt malts, coffee, light hop smell mixed in nicely with the dark malts

T: Really sweet, chocolate, coffee, caramel, cola, burnt malts, little hop bitterness at the end. This one is really aggressive on the taste, almost too much for me.

M: Full, velvety texture.

O: A good beer but a little too overpowering in my opinion. I like a good sweet stout with strong flavors but this one doesnt seem to mesh well for me.

22oz bottle that my brother picked up for me while in Savannah, GA. Brewed 03/2014. Served in a Barrel and Barley teku.

Pours black with a finger and a half cap of dark khaki head. The froth fades to a nice halo and faint haze across the surface. Very little lace.

Smells sweet and roasty with sweet cream, coffee, roasted malt and cocoa.

Flavor is considerably more roasty and bitter than the nose implied. Dark roast coffee, chocolate malts, burnt caramel, rolled oats, a lactose sweetness and a dollop of booze. I'm not sure if this is brewed wIth oats but there is a flavor and texture that I associate with oatmeal stouts. Smooth and tasty, this goes down quite easily for it's abv.

Creamy, medium full body with subtle-but-active carbonation. Bitter aftertaste with cold brewed coffee, deeply roasted malt and charred sugar.

Slightly over roasty but the coffee notes and texture are near spot-on. My first bottled offering from Southbound has me hankering for more. Hopefully this will be brewed again, and in sufficient quantities to make it to the Atlanta area.

Poured into my tulip. Picked up in Savannah.

A – Solid black with a finger of frothy, creamy and bubbly head. Nice lacing. Good looking beer in the glass.

S – Milk and dark chocolate. Cream, vanilla.

T - Nice roasted malts with a dose of coffee flavor. Has somewhat of a burnt taste. Not sweet like the smell would lead you to believe. Finishes with a slightly bitter taste.

M – Medium bodied with a tingly feel on the palate. Ample carbonation.

O – She looks and smells good. Taste is solid but had a bit too much burnt malt flavor for me. Still a good brew here.

Appearance: Very dark brown, near black body, with a noted viscousness, and a surging, thick, tan foam head.

Smell: Rich roasted barley malt layered in melty chocolate, lush caramel, darkened toast, and the great-smelling coffee. Also, some dark fruits!

Taste: Very fluid transition of dark caramel, dark chocolate, roasted malts, and coffee doctored up with a splash of cream. Modest dark fruitiness. Light toastiness under the more fuller flavors. Minimal hop character and bitterness. Solid coffee flavor throughout. Very smooth, coffee-laden, dark malty finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation. Smooth, velvety mouthfeel.

Overall: It's big and bold, but not the stinking sewer so many beers can be, and each sip is so amazing to savor. Everyone, go drink it immediately.

This "imperial coffee stout" comes with a semi-durable, sudsy, light brown head over a very dark brown body.spotty lacing. (revisited - 12 oz can - November 2016).

Fine, rich aroma of dark malts with an obvious coffee note.

Flavor: rich, dark roasted malts with too much burnt grain flavor. Mild-moderate bitterness.

Feel: carbonation is a tad high; medium plus body.

O: burnt grains in the flavor hurt this fine smelling coffee stout. Improved with warming.
