The beer pours a clear straw color with tons of soapy, white head that leaves thick lacing.

The smell is tart and grassy with a nice stone fruit.

The taste follows pretty closely with a nice farmhouse funk and a lingering, bitter afteraste.

The mouthfeel is highly carbonated and smooth.

Overall a nice beer. The only date on the can is 094. I'm guessing this is old or I would get more hoppiness on the nose from the dry hopping.

A: Cloudy gold colt, thick white head, good lacing

S: I get a sour smell I guess from the saison yeast

T: Sweetness then the sourness comes in, I get some citrus.

M: Medium

O: I'm not a huge fan of this style but it is a good beer for what it is. Quality is there I'm just not a huge fan.

12 oz can served in a lager glass.

Pours a hazy, pale yellow with a finger and a half cap of white foam. The head settles to a full surface coat and deposits sheets of sticky lace.

Smell: funky with lots of lemon and other citrus notes, some faint piney hops, floral notes, and baked bread.

Flavor: Strong and tart, with suggestions of yeast, hay, citrus peel, guava, white pepper, wheat crackers and, in the finish, piney hops.

Feel: Medium-light body with medium+ carbonation.

Overall: very flavorful, moderately funky, highly complex and multilayered.

12oz can, sample from the brewery.

Massive white froth, head retention reaches epic proportions. Mild haze within the pale hue. Herbal, grassy, tart, grainy, funky, fresh ... quite the aroma. Smooth, fluffy mouthfeel. Mild tartness, funk is pleasing with earthy tones. Lots of hop flavor and some bitterness. Herbal with that rustic Saison tone throughout. Old school flavors with a new twist. I really dig this brew.

Hazy golden yellow, half in head
Smells tart: lemon, vinegar, very acidic and bright
Fresh grain, lemon, esters, wheat,
A sparkling seltzery light feel
It's fine

Not a good saison at all...
Poured into a snifter off of draft
Look: too dark, head present at the pour, but no real head retention and no lacing
Smell: Nothing but over malt in the nose, can't detect the influence of the yeast which should be the signature of a saison. Not a hint of the Southern Cross hops, which would have been a nice addition to detect. Absolutely no tartness from the supposed kettle souring on the nose as well.
Taste: Terribly over malted without the taste of any of the traditional grains that should be in a saison, doesn't contain but a hint of the esters and phenols that should be present from the yeast. Again, not a hint of the Southern Cross hops in the taste...nothing but a bad grain bill. And again, no detection of any tartness/souring in the beer..very disappointing!
Feel: Nothing but the remnants of the wrong grain bill linger on the palate with no feel contributed to the yeast. Again, unfortunately not even a hint of bitterness or flavor left on the palate from the hops nor a slight sour expected from the kettle sour.
Overall: I'm a huge fan of saisons, sours and hoppy beers and I couldn't pick up on either of those 3 landmarks the brewery seems to build this beer's reputation on. In fact, this is one of the worst saisons I've ever had...I would avoid this beer if you're a true fan of saisons and if you don't like a boring beer with an overdominate grain bill. I don't detect a single but of Southern Cross and there isn't any hop influence at all on top of that. If this was advertised as a malt forward English Ale, I could make accommodations, but this is a train wreck of a beer and should go back to the drawing board! On top of everything, to steal a name and icon of the Grateful Dead and their shows/parking lots for the name of the beer simply adds way too much insult to injury!!!!
