Picked up from a Rochester store less than a week ago. Poured from a bomber. It explodes into the glass with massive foam. Dark brown color with a very large head that eventually settles to a thick cap. Not much for lacing however.
Smells a bit of ash, cherries, lemons, earth, and dark malt. Between the gushing and the aroma, I would say an infection has taken hold.
The flavor confirms this. Although the infection has not completely eliminated the smoke. Unfortunately the smoke is not that enjoyable of a component. More ashy and like smoking a stale cigarette. Tart fruit is hardly a complimentary flavor either. Its a mess.
Once the carbonation is allowed to settle down, the body is ok. Light for a porter but this is not suppose to be a big beer.
Even if the bottle was not infected, it probably is not a very good beer. Cannot finish the glass, let alone the bottle. This bottle cost $8 too. Down the drain it goes. That is unforgiveable to charge that much for a poor beer.

Special Smoked Porter pours a black color with very small head. There is a smokey aroma. The taste is very smokey, and has a nice roasted undertone, as it gets warmer, it gets smoker. Good flavors, good body, just a little on the flat side. Overall a good smokey beer, let it warm up to really enjoy it.
