Poured from a 16oz can (canned on 09/25/15) into a 17oz Brussels tulip glass

A - Like the can, it pours a hazy, orange with a solid one-finger of white head. Classic DIPA looking brew (4.5)

S - Despite other reviews, I find this to be quite aromatic...Mango, Pine, Ruby Red Grapefruit, Peach, Melon and Apricot are all represented. Equal parts fleshy fruit and pine is executed in Big Cranky. The 9.5% is completely hidden. (4.75)

T - Those aforementioned sweet and juicy fruits along with a resinous pine are complemented by a firm malt backbone that never gets too intrusive. Like the arome, absolutely no alcohol in the taste. (4.5)
M - For 9.5%, it sports a medium (minus) and creamy carbonation. The hop oils definitely coat the tongue, but the underlying bitterness never becomes astringent. (4.5)

O - To buck the trend and all the haters, this is a fantastic beer. For me, this is reminiscent of Space Juice (Long Trail). To those who need a better example, Big Cranky is an amalgamation of Enjoy By IPA (Stone) and Sucks (Lagunitas). For ~$11 4Pack (16oz), this is another winner for East Coast DIPAs. (4.75)

This one just did not do it for me. Too boozy with little hop flavor and kind of a nasty bitterness in the aftertaste. There are plenty of better DIPAs out there...

pours a nice Amber color, carbonation can be seen. smell is piney and earthy with slight citrus undertones. when you first taste it, the citrus pops for a second, then the pine and earthy tastes set in, followed by the malt which balances the hops and alcohol out nice, and it finishes with a dry
boozy bite. nice carbonation to tie everything together. great CT brew and sweet that it comes in pint cans!

Poured from a fresh 16 oz can. Hazy yellow/amber with a 2 finger head. Smells all fruity with mango and grapefruit prominent. Tastes of mango and grapefruit just like the smell. Low malt backbone. No piney taste. Drinks so much easier than 9.5% beer. I am enjoying this beer. It's different!

Solid dipa- probably best dipa being commercially offered in ct- New England has some brewery only batches that are great but as far as what you can get in the store, this takes the top spot. Not overwhelmingly bitter, lots of late addition hops that give a lot of flavor and aroma. I'll grab this one again in between trips to the alchemist and bosses brothers

When I was a teenager, I was dating a girl who was abundantly endowed for her age. She had occasion to drop by once while my Uncle Burns (as in sideburns) was visiting from out of town. When she entered the room, she gave off pheromones of teenage lust and walked with a swagger that only a runway model could envy. Now alert from the semi-catatonic state induced by a sixer of Olde English 800 (yes, they existed), Uncle Burns looks in her general direction (you get the point), then looks at me. The next thing he uttered, while coded, yet completely off-color, has left an indelible mark on me to this day. "Larrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrge, he says." Talk about deafening silence. You could literally hear a pin drop. Witness Big Cranky. Canned on 9/8, this is super fresh and I'm thankful for the opportunity to partake. The smell on this one is extravagant. Like the head cheerleader who rarely sweats, but when she does, it smells like purified mint water. The tropical scents on this one are toxic. Imagine walking into Starburst HQ, only to find the kitchen staff chopping up fresh garlic, and scallions. Taste follows seamlessly, introducing a further compliment of tropical goodness that assaults the palate in waves. It reminds me of my aforementioned girlfriend, who used to wear cherry lip gloss, that I can only surmise as tasting like heaven. The beauty of life is that while time passes, memories never fade. This beer, dare I say, reminds me of Tree House's Alter Ego, albeit on steroids. The ABV and bitterness are omnipresent, but it does not detract from the overall experience. I certainly didn't expect to be wowed by this beer; I only expected it to be part of the process. The feel is prickly with residual tropical flavors on the finish, and some faint herbaceous-like qualities. I think it's only appropriate that I give a nod to Stony Creek, and my 16-year-old girlfriend (who shall remain nameless). Last but not least, Uncle Burns, thank you. You created a legacy the day you uttered that unimaginable phrase, a phrase that has evolved into myriad meanings than your original intent. You, sir, are "larrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrge."

Woah, I've been seriously underwhelmed by all of Stony Creeks offerings so far, but this beer is the real deal. Strong tropical fruit aroma. It's a heavy/full bodied beer but somehow very balanced at the same time. Not sure how best to describe it but the prior reviewer's comment of "big in a good way" (that's what she said) is spot on. It's heavy, it's almost 10% abv, but I always want another one. Definitely on par with many of the other top DIPAs out there. Nice work Stony Creek, keep it up.

Short review: I want to hate this beer, but it's actually sort of impressive. Dank mango & garlic, very full-bodied, and it feels big in a good way. This can was a gift, but I would totally seek this one out again. Very surprised, since this brewery seems like a crappy, gimmicky novice beer-tourist destination.

On tap at Stony Creek. Pours a translucent yellowish Amber with almost no head. Some lacing. The aroma is lots of tropical fruits and dank hops. Hints of onion and garlic. The taste is mango, grapefruit, pineapple, onion and garlic. Dank finish with a noticeable alcohol presence. Bitter and boozey. Medium bodied. Overall, worth grabbing again.
