we really didnt care for this one at all, my first beer from these guys too, and i am surprised to even see it listed here as an ipa at all, it pours flat and blonde color, clearish, but more like a light lager than any kind of ipa, and the aroma doesnt carry much hops either, a little light citrus to it, but this is nowhere near the ipa range in terms of hoppiness in aroma or flavor. beyond that, it just drinks kind of sloppy to me, despite its impressive clarity, maybe it came through a less than fully clean tap line or something, but this had a metallic thing about it, a little chemical element as well, just kind of plastic and flawed, although its light to drink in feel and has better carbonation than its lack of head would indicate. i could see this working only in a really greasy food context, like really oily pepperoni pizza, where it could cut and quench some of that, but as a beer on its own, its not a great pint. nothing happening in the malt base, kind of off fermentation profile, and hopped more like a new school blonde ale than any ipa type i have known. looks like this cranky name has made the rounds, hopefully the other iterations are better than this one. maybe its not even as bad as i am making it sound, but in a day filled with world class hoppy beer, this one couldnt hang...

A: slight haze; medium gold in color; 1 finger white head that receded to a splotchy cap; nice lacing;

S: not very aromatic; what's there is predominantly earthy with a bit of floral in the background;

T: floral and citrus from start to finish - the combination is somewhat soapy; mild to moderate bitterness on the finish;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; moderately dry finish;

O: low alcohol doesn't have to mean you give up aroma and flavor;

Can from Big Y.

A clear light orange with a ton of small floaties and an offwhite head, this looks ok. The nose is sweet with the raw wort, a mild citrus note and some grain. On the palate, this is thin and very wort like, rather sweet with a little honey and orange. Dry, rather watery, this is disappointing.

Straw colored with a whitish haze. Good two-finger head which settles slowly and in a chunky manner.

Very pale (almost, but not quite, grainy) malt smell. Light hop nose. Reminds me of a Kölsch.

Clean taste with a crisp and lightly sweet malt base. The hop is present but not too strong. Again, this is like a Kölsch, but with far more hop. It's refreshing and easy to drink. Highly carbonated with a moderate body. Overall, I really like this beer. It's not so much a session IPA but more of a hoppy Kölsch. Either way, it's tasty, clean and invigorating.

Enjoyed poured from a can.

3/13/17 canned date.

Not typically a session fan but this one was drinkable. Next to no malt but that really isnt what you are looking for from a session. Nice color and carbonation with somewhat thick head.

I wouldnt jump up and down about the flavor, just seems a bit bland all things considered. Very slightly fruity with a hint of citrus after taste that fades quick.

Overall: If you are looking for a beer to try out, keep looking. Quite a few CT brewerys worth your time first. If you do find yourself in possesion of this one, by all means give it a shot.

Fine as a session beer, but it doesn't bring the flavor punch that I'd prefer. Good on a hot day as a thirst quencher.

I found it to be drinkable, but it didn't really seem to have much flavor.

Not what I excepted at all. Session IPA will certainly have less malt and the hops will seem rougher. But this one had more of a lemon/orange PEEL flavor as opposed to the lemon and orange flavor claimed by the can. As another review noted, there is an odd hefe-like tang. As someone who does not care for that flavor profile, this beer really fell flat for me. I've had the regular Cranky and while it shares a harsh hop profile...the increased malts help to balance and make it a more enjoyable drink.

I will admit, a well done session IPA is a tough think Founders All Day is popular for a reason. I'd argue that Two Roads (another CT brew) has a better one, if only because it is more "IPA-like" than this. If you can get a single, give it a taste, especially if you like Hefeweiss and IPA.

Dark orange in body with white bubbly head. Grass, mint, citrus skin in aroma. Tastes of grass, citrus, pineapple, pine, medium bitterness. Medium bodied with medium carbonation.
