Style: Berliner Weissbier

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.30%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
This beer is Sloop Brewing’s artistic ale. The Sauer Peach’s complex flavors come from a natural sour culture. This tart flavor is woven with sweet peach nectar to provide your palate with a contrastingly balanced beer. It is light in body, and stands at alc. 4.3% by vol.

One theory holds that the Berliner Weisse style ale originated from the Huguenots passing through the Flanders region of Belgium on their way to Germany. Later, the Huguenots established a community in New Paltz, NY, which is just across the Hudson River from Sloop Brewery. This is our interpretation of their beer.

This was a surprising find! Deserves to be rated higher- the peach is great with just the right amount of funk. If you see this grab a bottle if you like sour beers.

I really enjoy this unique take on the style. It looks gorgeous, has a nice fruity nose, and tastes like a tart peach soda. It actually seems a bit more sour (sauer?) with some age on it. Give this a try if you happen to run into it in the NY area.

L: Hazy, opaque yellow with a thin filmy head that died almost instantly.

S: Sour peach. Not much else. Maybe some lime, white grape, and honeydew melon, but mostly white peach skins and lactic tartness.

T: White peaches sprinkled in sugar, balanced with an intense, zesty lime and citric acid sourness. White bread malt backbone, balanced with a crisp, apple and pear like tartness and dryness.

F: Thick and chewy, like white bread, lots of wheat, with a spritzy, lemon-lime soda like carbonation that moves the beer quickly across your palate.

O: Fantastically balanced and delicious!

Finally reviewing this Justin and Adam delight. Live review. This beer is poetry.

It pours turbidly, the color of peach-tinged straw. A quick view of a two finger white cap all I saw.

That sour funky citrus that Berliner lovers crave, with peach so dreamy luscious it could put me in my grave.

Refreshing, tart the start of flavors bold yet smooth and clean, then peach a sweet reach to it starts the fueling funk machine. Some real hormonal in there never seeming too extreme, it ends just dry enough to make a fruit and sour dream.

Ah, but in the mouth, light and refreshing bright zest, the citrus clean and sour/ sweet in a wheaty finish

makes this a super refreshing beer with just the right amount of Peach. Love this beer, go get some.

Bottle purchased at Half Time Beverages in Poughkeepsie, New York, and shared with Isaac and Will last night.

Pours a golden orange-ish yellow, with a quarter inch fizzy head, and a little bit of lacing.

Smells like peaches, lemons, and some dirty sour funk. Smells great.

My usual problem with Berliner is that there isn't a lot of naturally juicy fruit flavor left over, it's just sour and thin. This remedies that wholesomely. Lots of great sour peach flavor, peach skin and peach flesh both, with some hay, lactic acid, lemons, and lots of dirty tasty barnyard funk. It's pretty sour, but not overwhelmingly so, doesn't get old.

This is light bodied, with an airy, spritzy mouthfeel, and a higher amount of carbonation. It's really, really drinkable and quite refreshing, even in November.

This is one of the best beers I've had from New York State. Maybe this batch is better than previous ones, because I feel this deserves a much higher rating than it gets here.

This beer pours a cloudy orange color with a one finger white head that disappears quickly. Also no lacing. The smell is peaches apricot and kettle sour. Taste is similar, but an amazing juicy peach bomb with some sourness and also more funk than the smell would lead you to believe. Feel is light with good carbonation. Overall an excellent beer. Love the juicy peach along with the extreme tart flavor.
