Style: Berliner Weissbier

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.30%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
This beer is Sloop Brewing’s artistic ale. The Sauer Peach’s complex flavors come from a natural sour culture. This tart flavor is woven with sweet peach nectar to provide your palate with a contrastingly balanced beer. It is light in body, and stands at alc. 4.3% by vol.

One theory holds that the Berliner Weisse style ale originated from the Huguenots passing through the Flanders region of Belgium on their way to Germany. Later, the Huguenots established a community in New Paltz, NY, which is just across the Hudson River from Sloop Brewery. This is our interpretation of their beer.

my first beer from these guys is a good one! very sour for a berliner, high acidity, but pretty bright and clean as they go. this is cool with the fruit. most beers with peaches either tastes like real peaches, or they taste like peach ring candy or some similar artificial overly sweet peachy thing. this is unique in that it sort of has both of these elements at work. in the nose its sweet and tart like the candy, concentrated and stronger than any other element. in the flavor though, its more of a natural peach, juicy and ripe, in balance with the other elements. its a cool progression, and the beer ends remarkably dry. the sourness is high, but there is very little of that front end souring sweaty element, just a tiny bit, its pretty clean. the acidity is bright, it highlights the peach, and the wheat malt has plenty of flavor here too, keeping it feeling like beer. great carbonation, even a sort of fuzzy feel from the peach, light and really flavorful. i can see why this one is popular, one of the more interesting berliners i have had in awhile.

L: Hazy, opaque yellow with a thin filmy head that died almost instantly.

S: Sour peach. Not much else. Maybe some lime, white grape, and honeydew melon, but mostly white peach skins and lactic tartness.

T: White peaches sprinkled in sugar, balanced with an intense, zesty lime and citric acid sourness. White bread malt backbone, balanced with a crisp, apple and pear like tartness and dryness.

F: Thick and chewy, like white bread, lots of wheat, with a spritzy, lemon-lime soda like carbonation that moves the beer quickly across your palate.

O: Fantastically balanced and delicious!

No head, murky orange yellowish color.

Nose huge sour, acidic bacteria souring, big sourness, Brett sour funk, tart fruity but not really peach, little doughy malt wheat.

Taste big sour acidic funk, little Brett funk and sourness, sorting acidic bacteria, tart fruit and a little peach, golden peach, some creamy wheat and malt, touch d doughy and yeasty.dry sticky flemmy finish, sour peach lingering, acidity.

Mouth is med bod creamy but very acidic tart and flemmy, decent carb.

Overall a nice Berliner, great souring although probably too sour and funky, peach is very light.
