Dark brown with a light brown creamy head.
Smell of red forest fruit, some chocolate and coffee. Some nuts.
Taste mild bittersweet. Big roasted malts and nuts taste.
Mouthfeel is quite a bit thinner than I expected. The alcohol does turn up in the aftertaste as a bit of burn. Not too badly though.
Overall it's a mediocre stout. It's serving it's purpose as an example of the style, and I love the style, but it's quite boring also.

Picked this up at a great beer shop in Darmstadt, Germany, Maruhn Welt der Getränke. Pitch black pour with a quickly fading two finger caramel-colored head with nice lacing. The nose is big and roasty initially, but is quickly taken over by hints of smokey, burnt rubber. The taste follows suit with the burnt rubber and smoke dominating the hints of dark chocolate and cocoa. The mouthfeel is thick and chewy with a creamy, subtly sweet finish. Overall, there is a ton of potential with this beer, as there are a lot of nice roasty chocolate notes. But sadly it's covered up by an off-putting smokiness that I just can't get past...

Disclaimer: Had this one down in the cellar for about a year and half.

L: Black with dark brown edges and a thick, light brown head leaving minimal lacing. Appears to have a surprising amount of thickness to it as it is poured. S: Chocolatey, roasted malts. Slightly metallic, a bit like a Schwarzbier. Faint liquorice. T: Cocoa and slightly herbal/medicinal with a bitter-dry finish. F: Low carbonation with a thicker body than expected after spending some time in the cellar.
Overall: A solid IS. Nothing crazily overwhelming, but certainly worth the couple of euros it cost.
