Had this one on the train from Faro to Lisbon. Drank it straight out the bottle, as I did not have a glass handy. Served pretty much at room temp, it had a nice sweet malt smell, followed by the same taste. Decent carbonation leaving me with a clean mouthfeel. Quite drinkable, wish I had had another served chilled.

The Sagres Bohemia 1835 stands out as the exceptional beer of Portugal. Relatively similar in most respects to the regular Bohemia, but the slightly higher alcohol content gives it a more balanced, richer taste, offsetting the sweetness in the beer. The beer has a depth of flavour while still remaining light and refreshing, impressive in a beer of this strength, and it also lacks the excessive carbonation common in beers from Iberia. It follows that its drinkability is dangerously exceptional!

Dark amber/light brown color. Clear. The head dies quickly on this one.

Smells similar to the regular Bohemia (sweet from the caramel malts). The flavor was drier than the smell indicates. Nice body for the style. Like other Portuguese beers, this one is highly carbonated.

I find this one to be easier to drink than the weaker regular Bohemia beer from Sagres. This one is good, not great. Perhaps the best in Portugal, which is not saying much.

A very balanced beer, with a sweet taste, nice degree and a amber to red color. Altough having a not very persistance foam, stays alive for the necessary time. Just the right body for this type of beer, feels very good in the mouth and exceptional when goes down, specially when served properly chilled.

Bottle from a grocery store in Albufeira labelled 'Bohemia Reserva 1835'. From notes.

A - Poured an amber colour and bright with tons of carbonation. Fluffy beige two finger head. Thick rings of lacing and a half finger of retention. Looked pretty darn good.

S - Caramelly malts, cola, a slight chocolate note, and a little nuttiness.

T - A little too sweet. More cola, caramel malts, some coffee ice cream maybe?

M - Mild to medium carbonation and a lingering sweetness with a medium body.

O/D - Not too bad for a dark lager actually. Nice and quaffable. Not overly good but for the region, this is one of the better beers out there. More complex than anything else you'll find and pleasant to drink.

One of the best commercial beers ever brewed in Portugal.

This beer pours with a reddish amber color. Its head has a light tan color, moderate size, persistent retention and is kind of thick. Very clear.
A very agreeable nose and a sweet taste.
It is a smooth beer with moderate carbonation, moderate alcoholic strength and a reasonable full body.
The finish reaffirms its smoothness with a persistent and balanced aftertaste.

Overall: a nice, balanced and complex amber lager. Although similar to its “sister” beer (Sagres Bohemia), it is easy to appreciate the good quality of this Portuguese beer.
