Pours dark brown with a rich off-white head that leaves some lacing down the glass.
The smell is of lightly roasted dark malt with caramel/toffee.
The taste is of darkish malts with a caramel/toffee character - sweet with balancing roastiness and a subtle Continental-type hop bitterness in the middle. LIght touch of smokiness leads to a dry finish.
Medium bodied with medium carbonation.
This is a nice, easy-drinking EDL that goes towards a schwartzbier (though a bit more caramelish). Pairs very well with shell-fish, especially mussels.

May 2006: 330 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal, Stavanger. Ingredients include maize (corn) and rice. 10.8 degrees Plato. ABV is 4.3%. Very dark colour, nearly black, ruby in the highlights. Low head. Very moderate malty aroma, hints of coffee. Flavour is surprisingly watery and bland, drinking it after the excellent Nøgne Ø and Nørrebro beers obviously didn’t help. "Boiled" notes, wet cardboard and dust abound. Disappointing.

330mL bottle
date stamped 12 2022
L: bubbly black body is capped by a frothy tan head that holds decent retention
S: roasted barley, cola, caramel, vanilla, cacao nib
T: sweet cola, caramel, cacao nib, roasted barley, anise
F: thinner body, ample carbonation, sweeter finish than I’d like
O: I wanted to like this more, but it seemed like a bad cola more than anything

Totally fine mass dark lager, sweet, but not cloying.
a) I'm good with this. Clear, dark brown, tan head, laces.
s) Offers a sweet, toffee malt.
t) Follows sell with enough hop back bone and chocolate notes to interest me.
f) The body is light-medium with mass carbonation and crisp mouthfeel.
o) fine mass, average beer, at airport and elsewhere in Lisbon. (tho loved the beers at CRAFT CORNER)

Bottle in the Azores. Dark brown color with a tan head. Caramel and chocolate malts. Raisins, molasses. Smooth and easy drinking. Nothing fancy but it’s a solid beer.

Bottle from a Lisbon supermarket. 4.10% ABV.
Has a malted milk ball/Whoppers taste with some black bread and dark fruit in there too. Simple and shallow, but balanced and approachable.
Mouthfeel is smooth, wet, medium-bodied, and unrefreshing. Overcarbonated.
A nice dark beer from Sagres, but nothing special. Drinkable, enjoyable, and fairly priced.

This is really an non-traditional dark European beer. A staple when in Portugal. I love this beer! Malty, fun!

12 oz bottle poured into a shaker. The aroma is very mellow with notes of dark fruit (raisin), roasted notes, and a light nuts and/or bread crust hint. The beer is a rich, dark caramel brown hue with a tan, dense head that disappears quickly leaving only a light retention and lace. The taste is a dry, medium sweet and medium light bitter. The carbonation is soft and fuzzy for the lightly chewy, and sticky beer. The medium light body is flavored much like it smells with a zippy finish that has light root beer and licorice notes to it and light chocolate and caramel creeping in late. the aftertaste is light with notes of root beer, a touch of chocolate, and a light burnt note which mellows quickly and turns to fig.

Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 4C). Bottle 33 cl - Batch 3438650766. AROMA: roasted notes with a coffe and dark chocolate character and a mild sweet background. clean lager profile and no hop aromas. APPEARANCE: dark brown color with some ruby highlights. translucent. medium tanned head with average retention. TASTE: light malt flavour with a neutral character. moderate roasted notes of coffe and dark bitter chocolate lasting into the finish. low bitterness with a semi-dry finish. no noble hop flavours discernible and clean lager profile. PALATE: medium-light body with moderate carbonation. no astringency. OVERALL: a nice portuguese schwarzbier.

Popping the top yields a nice roasted malt aroma. Pours to a dark brown barely translucent color with a foamy tan head. Taste is a nice roasted malt with only a hint of bitterness. Finish is clean and sweet. This is an easy drinking very flavorful brew. A sessioner without a doubt. Simple and refreshing but not monotonous.

Deep black color with one finger beige head with short retention.
Aroma of chocolate and coffee.
Refreshing flavor of toasted and roasted malt, coffee, charred wood and a hint of lemon. Quite dry aftertaste with a medium bitterness likely from its roasted notes.
Light body with good carbonation.
A refreshing Dunkel, not overly sweet or cloying, resulting in high drinkability but very low complexity. Nevertheless, I would prefer having this to any Adjunct Lager. But that is it.
