Not much to add from Beerandraiderfan's review so just some thoughts and opinions. This is in a historic building and deep below is a working artisan well. The decor is awesome, two sides both with a bar, dining area and fireplace. For beer I had the Pilsner, I did not care for it, nothing wrong just not my style of Pils. Next the The Third Man, recommended by a man at the bar, this is a Belgian Tripel and it was outstanding.
The menu does have some pizzas and a burger but is has many Belgian items, mussels and frites etc. I tried the Duck confit and pork shoulder rillettes, basically a pate. It was good, I dont think I would order it again but worth a try once. I find myself in Reno more and more lately and I will be back to this one many more times.

i have been wanting to check these guys out for a long time. i really admire and respect the beers ive been able to have from them, and they have sort of always been on my radar. it was cool to finally get the chance. this feels like a classy establishment when you walk in, some stone fireplaces roaring, a festive cozy holiday feel this time of year, and a bigger space than it looks like from the outside, with lots of wood and brick accents, and a pretty old worldy charm about it, mellow energy, good vibes. they had a dozen or so beers on tap, almost all of which were creative and delicious, as well as a handful of expensive specialty bottles. i liked all that i had, but was most impressed with a butternut squash and sage saison called white downs, and their framboise, which could have come from any of the classic lambic producers. tasty saisons and funky beers, nice belgians, even an oaked octoberfest lager. high quality from top to bottom. service was interesting, i must have interacted with five or six different folks at the bar, and they werent very busy, maybe a team approach to service, either way, it was pretty good. i only had a snack, some delicious portobello muchroom fries, which i had never seen before, they were great. the rest of it looked nice too, ill eat a full meal next time for sure. if you are in reno, or anywhere near by, i would suggest a trip here to check it out, the beer is second to none and the space was fun. ill look forward to my next visit! awesome and highly underrated beers coming out of this place!

Very large place perfect for a beer at the bar or a large party. Several rooms; several bars and lots of beer on tap. Nothing that will change your life but all true to style and excellent quality. The brewers here know what they are doing. Worth the trip.

Brasserie Saint James is a Belgian beer bar (mostly) with great food.

It's a big place that seems smaller, because it's got several different rooms. We ate in the main bar, full of old wood and cool decor. It's classy without being upscale, if that makes any sense. There are side rooms with TVs and games, and a completely different vibe.

It's a brasserie, as they say. That means a certain kind of Belgian/French food with strong flavors and a fairly casual vibe. Think mussels, grilled oysters, cassoulets, and braised meats and stews. I had a Basque mussel dish that was the best food I've ever had in a brewery or brewpub. I'd go back to this place just to eat, even if they didn't have beer.

The beer is mostly Belgian styles. There are a lot of different saisons and farmhouse ales. The quality ranged from very good to excellent. There is also a double IPA, which any typical American brewery (not doing Belgians) would be very proud of. They offer a tasting flight of 7 generous pours (prob. 5 ounces, maybe a bit more) for $12, which is a lot of great beer for a great price. Regular pours are generally 13 ounces in tulips.

Overall, Brasserie Saint James is one of the best combinations of food and beer that I've ever seen.

Inviting, cozy, with lots of warn wood and a definite European feel to the place. Fairly busy on Friday night too.

Quality was good, I tried only one beer (Daily Wages) but I thought it was very tasty. They had I believe 8 or 9 beers on tap, with a definite focus on European/Belgian styles.

Service was a bit of a let down. Our server was pleasant enough, but painfully slow. My friend ordered a second beer and it took almost 20 minutes to arrive. As I mentioned, it was busy, but not so busy that it should take that long to get a beer.

Food was really good. Best meal I've had at a brewery in sometime.

Overall, a very nice place. I hope my experience with the service isn't the norm because this place could be fantastic.

I love this little brewpub. Their selection is great and has a wonderful open feel to it. Nicely put at the top of the hill.
