22 oz. bottle, no bottled on date present. 2015 vintage. The label identifies this one as Begyle Neighborly Stout 2015. 'Barrel Aged Double Dry Stout' 6.00% abv according to the label. 'Ale aged in bourbon barrels'.
Poured into a clear balloon snifter.
A - Pours a dark chocolate brown, opaque black in the glass. Less than a finger of light creamy khaki head. Some moderate strands of fat lacing. Looks okay for what it is.
S - An alright aroma of average intensity. Alcohol fumes, mustiness, wood / barrel / bourbon, band-aid. Mild creamy vanilla / toffee / chocolate. Lots of booze fumes, which is surprising considering the low abv.
T - Taste follows in wake of the nose: musty, fumey, with notes of band-aid. Alcohol fumes, barrel, wood. Vanilla, chocolate, and cream are all faint for the most part. Could definitely benefit from some more of all that. Not roasty, charred, or bitter. No roasted malts. Cough syrup esque alcohol fumes.
M - The feel leans toward the fuller side of medium-bodied. Semi-thick and coating. Fumey and boozy. Not easy-drinking or quenching, considering the low abv.
Overall, a generic average take on a barrel-aged stout from Begyle. Maybe this one would benefit from some age? Either way, better luck next time guys.
