16 ounce can into pint glass, canned on 10/3/2017. Pours slightly hazy reddish brown color with a 1 finger fairly dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big nutty dark roasted coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, toasted biscuit, milk chocolate, and cocoa; with lighter notes of smoke, char, dark fruit, herbal, pepper, pine, and roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malts, coffee, and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big nutty dark roasted coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, toasted biscuit, milk chocolate, and cocoa; with lighter notes of smoke, char, dark fruit, herbal, pepper, pine, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate pine, herbal, spicy hop; and light roast/coffee bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of nutty coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, toasted biscuit, milk chocolate, cocoa, light smoke/char, herbal, pepper, pine, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, coffee, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero acrid/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from hop/roast bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready, fairly sticky, and lightly chalky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.3%. Overall this is and excellent American brown ale. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, coffee, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink, with the mellowly bitter/drying finish. Very classic tasting style example. Nicely rich malt complexity without being too roasty, great fruity/nutty coffee complexity, and nice earthy hop presence. A very enjoyable offering.

On tap at the brewery. Dark copper in color and clear. Smell is fresh ground coffee and sweet malts. Taste is much more coffee forward, brewed flavor more the the brightness of grounds. Feel is on the sweet side, but not as cloying as some browns. Carb on the low side. Overall a nice beer, but not remarkable.

Draft at Green Lady in a fluted tulip. Thanks to Thomas and Jenny!
Body is an opaque mahogany brown, tiny beads of carbonation rising along the edges of the glass. Ample head of creamy tan foam that has staying power.

Mellow coffee aroma, roasty and smooth, fairly subtle. Some grainy malts come through also. Taste is more coffee forward, adding a complimentary roasty bitterness to the rich toasty malt base. Smooth and creamy, light coffee bitterness lingers in the aftertaste. Overall a nice variation on a pretty solid brown ale.
