Batch 50. 22oz bottle served pin an imperial pint glass. Beer pours orange amber in color and slightly hazy. Massive pillowy white head on top emits a comparably epic alpha hop aroma. Very piney. Flavor doesn't disappoint, providing a crucial load of C-hops. Definitely out of balance on the palate but still finishes dry and neutral. I think this pushes itself over the line into Imperial IPA territory. That said, well done, Chicago.

Great beer. All of this company's beers are outstanding, so of course this one is no different. Highly recommend for any IPA fan. This suits the category perfectly. Until I had this beer, I had thought that Bell's 2 hearted ale was the best IPA. It's still very good, but this is better.

I got a bomber from batch #40 and loved it. The appearance showed sediment (which I love) and good head. Hophazardly featured a citrus, grapefruit nose with medium bitterness. The taste was great, featuring grapefruit and carmel. Proud that a new Chicago brewery put a legit double IPA!

32oz growler poured into a Begyle snifter. Filled on their opening day (1/25/14) and enjoyed that afternoon.

The beer pours a nice amber color, hues of garnet, bronze and orange when hit by the light, nice and clear with a slight chill haze. A soft, fizzy off white head rises about a finger high, lingers well and leaves a good amount of sticky lace behind. The aroma is of big piney bitter hops, resinous, sappy and earthy, a nice amount of tangy citrus comes behind it with some grassy plant aromas too with only some trace amounts of malt on the nose. The flavors are in line with the nose, lots of pine, big and boisterous on the tongue, sappy resinous hop spice, crisp and bitter with some light citrus and grassy flavors, a bit on the danker side come forth as well before a nice malt counterbalance tidies up the finish. The mouthfeel is good, crisp carbonation around the edges, but the beer is juicy and coats the mouth well. The finish is nice, easy and smooth with a punctual dry finish.

Verdict: A solid IPA from Begyle. Lots of earthy pine character, but just enough floral/weediness and citrus to keep things interesting. The balance is nice and makes up for the lack of complexity. I got to sample quite of few of their offerings at their little opening bash and this was easily my favorite. I had no problem putting away a 32oz growler solo over the course of an afternoon/evening and I can't wait to fill this up again with something different.
