Just because a beer isn't super hoppy or barrel-aged or novel or aggressive in some way doesn't make it boring. There's a big difference between subtle and blah, and this beer will delight fans of deeply-nuanced session bears like De Ranke Gouldenberg, De la Senne's Taras Boulba, and Victory's Hop Ticket Noble. If I lived in TX, this would definitely be my house beer.

The balance is deep. The hopping is deft. The malt is right where it needs to be. The result has personality, but it's subtle, and easily missed by those who need their beers to scream for their attention. And it's equally good on draft or in bottles.

Like all subtle beers, cold serving temperatures attenuate the nuanced flavors in a way bigger beers more easily survive. You'll need to cradle your glass a while to really taste this one at typical draft temps.

Appearance:
Light amber-golden, touch of haze. Good amount of fine carbonation. Creamy head.

Aroma:
Sweet pale malts, bready, some fruity notes.

Taste/Finish/Body:
Sweet pale malts, bready, biscuit, a little caramel. Faint fruit in the middle. Hop bitterness is low, mostly herbal-leafy. Clean-dry finish. Medium bodied, smooth, semi-crisp, highly drinkable.

Overall:
It's a very good American Blonde Ale.

Look: Light amber with quickly dissipating head. Never seen a "blonde" this color.

Smell: Clean; nothing off-putting.

Taste: Somewhat sweet malts, quickly balanced by bitter hops.

Feel: Fullness—much beyond what one would expect in a blonde.

May not be true-to-type, but it's ambitious and interesting. Really, this would work where many ambers, bocks, and reds do; it's that substantial.

Would buy again.
