This tastes like there was to much chocolate crystal malt used in the mash. Dark for a red I guess that is why it is called imperial (why not Baltic). Not much of a nose. A little rough on the palate but an average brew over all.

Cloudy garnet red pour with a small off-white head. Nice malty aroma. Thin body with really nice bread and malt flavors coming through initially. Can also taste some caramel and light earthy bitterness. Finishes with a slightly sweet caramel and wet bread flavor.

Look - looks like a red. 1 finger pale tan head. Some lacing is left behind on glass as I drink. No particulates in suspension. Tiny carbonation running up to the surface.

Smell - sweet malty backbone. Hops are present. I would say a bit too much but this is an imperial red so I won't dock points for that. Still very nice and the malt comes forward as it warms.

Taste - I get the sweet malt upfront with the hops following but not bitter. Carmel notes. Some breadiness but I could use more. Hops are status quo. Nothing it apart from the mainstream of craft beer. Would have liked some risk here. As the beer flattens out I get some tea flavor but not offensive. Very drinkable. I could finish the 6 if not a work night.

Mouthfeel - light but not watery. But, very close. Still not off putting and adds to the drinkability.

Overall - I like this beer and will get it again. When I am looking for middle of the road not too amped brew this will be in the go to group. A little pricey but, sometimes I find it better to pay for the absence of over the top flavors. $9.99 Kroger near Houston. Give it a try!
