Multiple times on tap and in a sampler at the brewery and once in bottle 750ml

A: Deep rich lack body leaning towards brown as it makes it to the edge of the glass light comes through. Head is a slightly off white creamy huge thing that settles slowly.

S: Roasted malts, nuttiness, a little chocolate and honey with deep doughy breadiness on the finish.

T: Slight sweetness to begin with light flavors of chocolate, honey, crushed nuts, some caramel, and nice breadiness, finishes slightly dry and sweet.

M: Medium bodied good to lighter carbonation finishes a little dry.

O: This is an exemplary Schwarzbier, at first blush at the brewery thought it was pretty good definitely the best I had their. After having several glasses on tap this beer just got better and better really is a great example of the style. I later had it at a winery in bottle form with a bottle date of May 24 and this beer did not age well. So if you can buy it, get it fresh and if you can find it on tap drink it all!

So-so serviceable dark beer. shwartz. Enjoyed at Wvrst. Black bodied, with lots of lace. Like a nitro beer, as it is missing taste, kind of watered down sweet with licorice finish. A Basic roast taste, a more engaging taste. Would like more body. Still OK drinkable.

Had this beer on a crisp Spring day. Perfect for the weather. Poured dark. Carbonation was spot on with light delicate head. Notes of mocha on the nose that carried through on the palate with a refreshing lager acidity and light body. Nice finish and low alcohol made for easy drinking.

A very good schwarzbier; initial coffee bitterness transforms into sweeter taste of chocolate malts as the brew warms.

Black in colour with a cream coloured head. Subtle maltiness in aroma. A far too mild and lightly roasted flavour. Light bodied with a clean finish.

I finally tracked this down during a trip to Niagara Falls. Smooth, full flavour of burnt dark malts. Excellent

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a mug glass.

A: The beer is a deep dark brown color with a large light brown head that fades quickly and leaves a thick but spotty lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains coffee, chocolate, lager yeast, roasted malts and a touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out smoky and sweet with flavors of coffee and chocolate. Then a strong breadiness comes in from a hearty roasted malt character and lager yeast. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly smoky and slightly bready.

M: Crisp and a little smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, this is a solid beer to drink for a while if you’re in the mood for the style.

Bomber from the LCBO; bottled May 25 2017 and served slightly chilled. First time I've seen a Silversmith brew for sale in the Lambton county area, so naturally I jumped at the opportunity to try it.

Pours a deep, opaque brownish-black colour with mahogany highlights, giving rise to roughly one finger of loose, frothy, khaki-tinged head. It proceeds to weaken and fade over the next three minutes or so; a wide, foamy collar and an uneven coat of lacing are the primary remains, with only a thin, bubbly film left behind to partially obscure the surface of the liquid. The nose is dominated by roasty dark malts, characterized by notes of mocha coffee and baker's chocolate, as well as hints of molasses, caramel and charred wood. Fairly aromatic for the style, and enticing to boot.

A well-made schwarzbier, for sure. Light hints of smoke accent the dark malt backbone, which features flavours of toasted bread, lightly-roasted coffee and some dark chocolate. Molasses and caramel sweetness are also present, with the tail end of the profile featuring some earthy, leafy hop bitterness prior to a mildly sweet, roasty finish; the aftertaste leans towards the dry side. Medium-light in body, with moderate carbonation levels that gently brush against the surface of the palate, giving this dark lager a smooth, rather soft texture. Highly quaffable, and certainly one of the best Ontario-made schwarzbiers that I can recall trying.

Final Grade: 3.96, a B+. Silversmith Black Lager is a rock-solid flagship beer. The aroma is almost a little too rich for a schwarz - coming close to reminding me of a porter at times - but the flavour profile itself is a fine interpretation of a classic German dark lager, with toasty dark malt notes rounded out by a dry, roasty, moderately bitter finish. While this is a very good beer, the fact remains that it's (nearly) 8 bucks a bomber, so I don't know how often I'd select it over, say, Köstritzer (which is cheaper, easier to find, and comparable in terms of quality). A bit pricey, but it's still well worth sampling if you're presented with the chance.

An excellent winter brew with an interesting taste balance between a coffee and sour.

From notes. Enjoyed a a winery tour with friends and a delicious lunch. Served into a giant wine glass.

Appearance - Very dark brown, nearly black. An impressive finger and change of deep tan head is poured and takes it's time in diminishing. Some lacing left behind.

Smell - Roasty as hell, some coffee elements but more of a earthy well roasted malt.

Taste - Close to the nose, with a touch less assertiveness. Hints of coffee. Moderate bitterness, leaning towards more intensely bitter, but just about in the middle for the style.

Mouthfeel - Smooth, rather light expressive carbonation.

Overall - A beer that will stack up with some of the best Germany has to offer. Would love to try this again.
