This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a black as hell ink color. A thin white rim of a foamy head clings around the side of the glass. Delicately dissipates and forms speckled lacing around the glass. The smell had a huge sweet dark cocoa bean combining with sweet melon/honeydew. Light citrus intertwines in and around the aroma. The taste wraps up together the aromas tightly and leads to a sticky aftertaste. Smooth on the finish. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. Carbonation rides fairly low. Sticky sweetness on the mouthfeel. ABV is well hidden. Overall, whoah, where did this come from? I wasn’t expecting this little surprise. Fans of black ales should be wishlisting this.

L - oh boy, a 11.5% BLIPA? pours a deep dark black. Only the faintest rusty coffee appears on the fringes when held up to the light. Reminds me of black coffee... except for that head! Woof. Big and fluffy. Sticky lacing.
S - smelling a lot more citrus and bright fruity flavors than I expected! Pithy orange, lemon zest, and melon. The "black" shines through with exceedingly milk chocolate. We're talking less than 50% cacao. Is it even chocolate at that point? Hints of vanilla and pine.
T - metallic chocolate. Hardly any cacao bitterness, just lactose and tootsie rolls all the way. Definitely getting the orange peel. Orange seems to go well with chocolate. Gives it an extra layer of sweetness. Faint piney resinous dryness with a clean bite amongst the decadence. I can see where HH is coming from when they describe "minty hops". My mouth feels cool after the fact. Maybe slightly peppermint/spearmint in the taste. But mostly it's robust and creamy. Can chocolate be juicy?
F - syrupy and buttery as expected from such a high ABV brew, but as has a filling, expounding fluffiness to it. Feels like drinking a meal.
O - this is definitely an atypical BLIPA, but I guess that's HH's style, innit? Not as much biting hoppiness as one would expect, and leans more toward the juicy, chocolatey, dessert side of the road.

The beer comes in a dark brown color.
The aroma offers chive, mint, orange, grapefruit, chocolate/mint dessert, sweet pine, medium minus roast.
The flavor follows with big citrus with more grapefruit and lemon peel, onto a creamy chocolate and mocha flavor, lightly bitter cocoa nibs come through with a soft green, minty bitterness. The beer drinks lighter than it's ABV, but it still cuts into the beer's creamy mouthfeel and burns on its way down.
