Notes: Double Milk Stout

Ever wondered what your favorite stout would taste like if it was wearing silk pajamas? Well the wait is over, Mom Jeans was brewed with malted oats and lactose sugar to insure a creamy, sumptuous, saxually mouth coating flavor. A - Dark brown and borderline black in color with a dense creamy layer of foam that's light caramel in color. The foam is very sticky on the sides of the glass.

S - Deep toasted cocoa and cream aroma. Nice overall roasty aroma.

T - Deep roasty char from start to finish with a touch of mild char and cream presence throughout. Balanced finish that sways towards the sweeter side.

M - Chewy, creamy, and silky on the tongue.

O - This is a very good Double Milk Stout ... recommended.

A: Pours an opaque yet still clear thick viscous jet black in color with moderate amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising slowly along the edges of the glass and faint dark coal brown + dark chestnut brown + dark garnet red colored highlights. The beer has a four finger tall dense fizzy sudsy foamy dark mocha head that slowly reduces to a medium to large sized patch of thin film covering a little more than 45% of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Slightly stronger than moderate aromas of roasted + chocolate + oat + toasted + caramel malts with a slightly heavier than moderate amount of lactose sweetness. Moderate aromas of milk chocolate + coffee and just a hint of earthy hops.

T: Upfront there are moderate to strong flavors of roasted + chocolate + oat + toasted + caramel malts with a slightly heavier than moderate amount of lactose sweetness. That is followed by moderate flavors of milk chocolate + malted milk balls + coffee as well as a hint of vanilla. Finally there are hints of earthy hops. Light to moderate amounts of roasty bitterness which are quickly overtaken by the lingering lactose sweetness.

M: Slightly heavier than medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth, almost creamy.

O: Drinks quite easily considering the sweetness + strength/ABV and the alcohol is well hidden. Very enjoyable and the flavors/aromas of the chocolate + coffee + malts + lactose come together quite nicely.

Exactly how you want a double milk stout to look...black at night with beautiful chocolate lacing.
The vanilla overwhelms the coffee in the smell and taste. Much more of a sweet swell than bitter coffee.
Same with the taste. The coffee is very subtle. Strong stout flavor on the way in and vanilla on the exhale.
Really smooth. Really great stout. I can't wait to have another.

L: Poured from a tallboy can to a pint glass. Had a deep, dark brown color and a thick, opaque consistency. There was a quarter inch of foamy, tan-colored head that lasts an average amount of time. Not much lacing, though.

S: A pretty good, but not spectacular, aroma of chocolate, cream, roasted malt, coffee, and lactose.

T: Tasted of a bit of cream (a nicely subtle presence), some milk chocolate (sweet, but could've used more), a little lactose (more than expected), a bit of coffee (less than expected), and a lot of roasted malt (present throughout). This is a solid flavor, but it needs a bit more oomph in its ingredients. Not bad, though.

F: A below average amount of carbonation with a smooth, dry finish. Medium-bodied.

O: An uneven, but still likable, beer. Worth a try.

16oz can.

Pours opaque dark brown with mahogany edgework. Minimal retention or lacing. Cocoa and Oreo shells in the nose with coffee beans and a hint of vanilla. On the fuller side of medium bodied with a creamy mouthfeel. Bakers chocolate and espresso-drizzled fudge on the palate. Finishes with vanilla, roast, and dark chocolate.

From the tall boy can in a snifter. This beast pours a dark coal
black with a fantastic head of tan foam that lingers longs leaving
nice lacing on a fat one inch layer of head. Nose of cocoa, char,
cream, roast, and coffee. Flavors follow but surpass by presentation
with cocoa, char, cream, coffee, and deep roast. Nice mouth feel;
full body, smooth, medium carbonation giving nice lift, lightly
coating, and finishing a hint dry.

Overall---wow...a milk stout that is worthy.

Cheers

32 ounce growler
Served in a snifter

This beer pours black and thick as motor oil. A timid pour yielded less than an inch of mocha head that leaves very little lacing.

It gives off a milk chocolate and roasted malt aroma.

It tastes sweet. Flavors of milk chocolate with hints of roasted malt prevail.

Full, rich, creamy mouthfeel

I had this beer on tap once and loved it. I got this growler at the Kitchen and Brewpub, and I am not quite as enamored with it. It is good but not as I recall.

Poured from a can into a pint glass.

Appearance: One of the darkest beers I've ever seen -- oily black. Large medium-brown head.

Smell: Sweet dark malt, coffee grounds, piney hops. Pleasant.

Taste: Yummy. Dark roasty coffee that leads but is not overpowering -- accompanied by some malt sweetness and a bit of lactose. Pretty well balanced, maybe on the bitter end for some. The flavor doesn't linger, making it surprisingly sessionable.

Feel: Creamy and sugary. Slightly dry finish from the coffee.

Overall: Very well done. A great example of the style.
