(tasting notes from 2/7/96) Serving is 12oz bottle into pint glass

Pours dark straw in color. The head is large with small bubbles and dissipates quickly.

The nose has a fine hoppiness to it with some slight malt, grassy background nones.

The taste is somewhat malty and grainy with only a touch of hop bitterness to it.

The beer finishes dry. The bottle claims a Pale Ale ancestry? This is similar to Genny, but with a few more hops added. Try it if you can find it, remember what it is and what it is NOT and you won't be disappointed. It's a good quaffing ale at a great price point.

Poured a dark straw hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was good retention and lacing.

The smell featured a strong upfront diacytl, followed by a grassy hop and corn.

The taste consisted of a strong diacytl that quickly dissipated to reveal a very biscuity full malt.

The mouthfeel was toward the thinner side of the style.

Overall a good American interpretation of the English style. While this beer is not back in production, a special batch, which was described by the brewery rep as a "24 Horse Ale," was brewed for the 2010 Blue Point Cask Festival. I would certainly welcome back this old friend with open arms.

ABV unknown, but higher than the standard formula.

Appearance: gold color, minimal head, no lacing

Smell: strong malt and hops, some fruitness

Taste: light body, crisp mouthfeel, bitter hops, alcohol, citrus, some maltiness and grain

Notes: From the neck medallion "12 Horse celebrates England's Burton Region and its distinctive pale ale brewing style. brought to Genesee in 1934 by Captain F.E.Moritz, brewing counselor to the British crown"
