Great picnic beer! Gold color with a one-finger head pour out of the can, little lacing, subtle grapefruity aroma and taste, light mouthfeel, crisp, refreshing. Tasted pretty good after mowing the lawn.

From the 12 oz. can stamped on the bottom with B229-1309:03. Sampled on June 1, 2019

The appearance is a cloudy looking pale yellow with a quick lasting white fizzy head and some lacing.

The aroma is so pungent with grapefruit, it feels like I'm smelling a fruit juice rather than a beer. Some hidden grainy characters but otherwise grapefruit.

Light body.

The taste is like the aroma - a grapefruit lover's delight but to me not enough grainy, bready sweetness for a proper Kolsch. Crisp finish though.

Genny's Summer beer(I think, here in upstate New York). My wife who does not care for Genny's beer likes this one. Only reason why though is because of the grapefruit. As you can see the can, this beer tastes like grapefruit a lot. I am not a big fan of beer that taste like fruit noticeably, so not my favorite. However I drink this because It's Summer beer, and I have been waiting for the god dang summer for so long! (living in snowy Buffalo)

I'm not going to bash this. If I could get this in NC regularly I would drink it all summer. Light, fizzy and full of grapefruit. Aroma is grapefruit with some crackery notes. Lightly sweet, lots of carb with grapefruit and some peppery spice. The grapefruit tastes so real in this beer. Just a really great beer for a steamy hot afternoon.

the branding on this can is on point, it still looks like an old school genesee beer, but it also is kind of modern at the same time, whoever designed these, nice work! the beer inside isnt bad either, although i wish the can was presented to us a little bit colder than it was, some of the refreshment value had dissipated before we ever even cracked it as a result of its temperature, but the beer still has some redeeming features. its light in color, i thought they might have meant to make this a red colored kolsch, but red is in reference to the grapefruit thats added. i think the base beer is somewhat more crafty than i thought it might be from these guys, i can taste the kolsch type yeast and a distinctive german pale maltiness here, its not adjuncty or cheap tasting from these elements at all. its the grapefruit that kind of throws it off. i think the dose is way too high, it overwhelms the best aspects of the base beer, unfortunately including its finishing dryness. it tastes a little chemical to me too, like, an actual grapefruit is more bitter and acidic than sugary, but we dont get hardly any of that in the beer. its more like a candy or something, and it makes this a little less summery than i want it to, and it has my palate thirsty for a good kolsch like this with actual grapefruit squeezed into it. i wish it was a little less heavy handed, because then its sort of artificial nature wouldnt be so pronounced, but the messed this up a little with how much they added. not bad, just missing out on its full potential i think. still, cool to see these guys innovating a bit, and the packaging is rad!

There are so many beers these days with adjuncts, that I try not to compare them against the styles I like the most, but rather rate them for what they are. “Genny” Ruby Red Kolsch is a beer whose appearance may be its worst enemy. It pours a standard golden color and has a fizzy head which dissipates quickly, as you watch the foam trails slide down into oblivion. The smell is grapefruit, to no surprise, and it is pleasing. Nothing offensive there at all. The taste is strongly grapefruit, but I would not compare it to a “fake” grapefruit taste. It tastes legit to me. The taste is neither too sour nor sweet. It is a perfect balance of what it should be. Carbonation is moderate, but the mouthfeel is lively. I had this beer on tap, with multiple people in 2018 at the Genesee Brewery. Although we liked their other offerings, we all walked out with a crowler of Ruby Red. I believe what was on tap has transferred well to the can. As an IPA lover, one would think it would be difficult for me to like this. Again, I rate on style and I believe this to be a fantastic, summer beer for those who like grapefruit. If you don’t like grapefruit, it would be pointless to review this beer. Hats off to Genesee for making, what I now know to be, my favorite adjunct beer!!!!!

Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is strong of grapefruit. Taste is of grapefruit, lemons, highly refreshing. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a good warm weather beer that excedded my expectations.

Since I spent a couple/few days celebrating CANada Day on 01 July, it only seems right & fitting to spent this four-day weekend drinking, reviewing & rating AmeriCAN-owned & made beers. I am beginning today with the theme of fruit-adjuncts. Cheers!

From the CAN: "Special Edition".

I CAN't quite understand the presence of the pipe-smoking sailor bearing a grapefruit & a tray filled with glasses of beer, but perhaps the answer lies inside of the CAN! The only way o find out was to begin by Crack!ing open the vent. When this did not provide satisfaction, I went to a heavy-handed Glug to attempt to shake an answer loose. This only resulted in the formation of just under two fingers of fizzy, foamy, soapy, bone-white head with very low retention, quickly falling away to wisps. 8=( Color was an oh-so-slightly-hazy Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7), suggesting that they may have cleaned things up in this iteration. Perhaps the swabbie held a field day to get everything ship-shape & Bristol fashion! Aha! When I was a barback at CKW2G, my shift every Wednesday beCAN with a fore & aft, overhead to deck + bulkheads filed day so I CAN fully relate! Mystery sorted. Nose had the CANdy-like sweetness that I have encountered in Ocean Spray Pink Grapefruit DRINK. Beware non-juice related beverages! CAN read: "Kölsch-style Blonde Ale with Natural Pink and Red Grapefruit Flavors". Okay, if they say so. Mouthfeel was on the thin side, not watery, but not terribly beyond it, either. The taste, while definitely grapefruit-driven (a stylistic knock, sorry!), was also kind of artificial-tasting. It just had a sweetness that I do not get in actual grapefruit juice. Hmm. Finish was crisp, bittersweet & highly refreshing on a hot, humid Summer's morn. Not too bad, but I would not want a steady diet. YMMV.

Prominent grapefruit flavor on the edge of being overpowering, but not. Fruity, but not in an artificial way and not at all sweet. Crisp, balanced, refreshing and VERY easy drinking. Perfect hot weather/yardwork beer. No off flavors... can drink one after the other all day.

Poured clear pale yellow, with a one-inch, fluffy head that lasted a while, depositing thick patchy lace.

The aroma is that of sweet lemon and grapefruit. The greater share being lemon.

The flavors are mild and extremely well balanced. Lemon and grapefruit hold throughout with no distinguishing finish.

This is a light, crisp and clean beer. Carbonation is modest and just a touch fizzy, while the alcohol is absent. The texture is soft.

As a Summer beer, one would be hard-pressed to find a finer option than this Kolsch. It is simple with no flaws. I made an afternoon of it from a double-walled Growlerworks pint glass, while reading and enjoying the mild weather. Thank you Chris.
