4/24/19 (Chicago): $1.16 24 oz can including tax purchased at Shop and Save on 4/19/19, no canning date noted, multiple pours into a pint glass. Light straw clear colour pour, light white head quickly disappates leaving thin white lacing. Sweet corn grain aroma. Light corn and malt taste, too sweet, very thin mouthfeel, slight fizzy carbonation, light drinking. Overall ok offering.

24oz can stamped A249 poured into a bow tie glass at fridge temp 5.5% ABV. The beer pours bright pale straw yellow with abundant bone white head. The head recedes to a thin cap and leaves plenty of lacing. The aroma is faint with some corny sweetness and maybe sulfur. The taste is barely sweet with a little tang. Minimal grain presence and no bitterness. The mouthfeel is thin bodied, adequately carbonated and semi dry in the finish. There is a little slick feel after the swallow but no aftertaste. Overall, ok. This is an extremely cheap and non-offensive way to deliver alcohol to folks who happen to hate bitterness or grain presence in a beer. I would advise to drink this one ice cold. It does get better as it warms.

A very pleasant surprise! I rate Genesee Ice highly not so much for being an exceptional beer in itself, but for its price-value ratio. At 5.5% ABV and as low as $8 for a 15 pack here in RI, its body, flavour and strength beat out all other popular cheap beers, many of which cost significantly more. Its little brother Genesee Light falls (and tastes) flat however. And unlike the other low-end beer brands, Genesee Ice doesn't wreak the same havoc in your stomach if you're drinking a lot, which you probably will be with it. Due to an ongoing sale, it's been my cheap beer of choice for months, but even if similarly priced with Bud, Rolling Rock or Narragansett, (my prior go-to's,) I would argue it's better in about every way.

24 ounce can into lager glass, canned on 12/21/2017. Pours crystal clear golden amber color with a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin spotty lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Good appearance. Aromas of cracker, corn, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, light honey/pepper, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with pale malt/corn and mild earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of cracker, corn, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, light honey/pepper, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Mild herbal, floral, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of cracker, corn, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, light honey/pepper, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice robustness of pale malt/corn and mild earthy hop flavors; with a solid malt/bitterness balance, and no cloying flavors after the finish. A bit of fruity corn aromas/flavors, but not overwhelming. Fairly crisp/clean finishing. Nicely clean on lager flavors, not too fruity/yeasty. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Minimal warming alcohol for 5.5%. Overall this is good iced pale adjunct lager. All around good robustness of pale malt/corn and mild earthy hop flavors; very smooth and fairly crisp/clean/refreshing to drink. Nicely clean and rich pils malt/grains, and mild earthy hop presence/balance. Not too overdone on adjuncts, and not overly sweet. A nicely enjoyable offering, and well made style example.

(24 oz can, F258... purchased cold with several other malt liquor in a frenzy... split between a shaker pint and tulip glass)

L: crystal-clear, medium amber colored; good bit of white foam builds on pour, but immediately breaks down... actually some thin streaks of Belgian lace

S: generic adjunct lager aromas; on the malty (liquor) side... slightly toasty, dry straw grain aroma; hints of spiced apple, maybe white grape; slight whiff of alcohol... bland sort of manila folder note as well... altogether uninspiring, dull

T: rather dry, ever-so-slightly caramel-kissed, cereal-like malt base; strange notes of corn kernel and wet oxidized interior of lemon rind in finish/aftertaste... light, leafy bitterness begging to be intensified... the malt opens up a little, but its overall essence is of toasted corn syrup - a spicy ester away from being a mediocre maibock at best?

F: slight touch of sizzle on the edges of what's essentially a marginally watered-down wort... light-medium bodied, delicate oily plushness

O: industrial brewing being industrial... not sure why one would bother with a weaker version of a malt liquor - maybe it's a bit more daring of a drink than a light beer?... a beer seemingly caught between the better of two directions... buries Natty Ice, but I couldn't see getting this again

Average ice beer. Not bad. It’s cheap. Got the 24oz can for 99cents. So the price is hard to beat. It’s not my favorite ice beer but I do pick it up every now and then. Drink it from the freezer ice cold. Cheers.

Type: 24-oz can
Glass: Westvleteren 12 Trappist (for shits and giggles)
From: Grocery Outlet in Allied Gardens (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $1.19
Purchased: May 9, 2018
Consumed: May 10, 2018
Reviewed as: American Adjunct Lager
Misc.: No canned on date; #CraftAdjace

Picked a can up of this and regular Genesee Ice at Grocery Outlet after an eye appointment and realizing that I hadn’t reviewed Genesee Beer, Genny Light or this one (had never heard of a Genny Ice). Crazy. Genny Light was probably the beer I consumed the most in college unfortunately. Never even liked it then when it was High Falls Brewing and actually craft beer (I think), so really not expecting much. Being an ice beer, would be shocked if it reached a 2.25 for me. Description from their website read, “When you're looking for a rich, full-flavored beer, Genesee Ice is the perfect beer for you. Our brewmasters begin with only the purest natural ingredients. Then, ice crystals form in the beer during its aging process before it's filtered for the rich flavor Genesee Ice is known for.”

Poured a pale clear color with 1-to-2 fingers of off-white fizzy head. Lots of bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Below average watery lacing. Very bad retention. (Sight - 3.00)

Smelled apple, pear, purple grape, grain, corn, hints of cinnamon (really?), cereal and slight skunkiness. Pretty much the same from the can with maybe more booze, skunkiness and hints of vomit. (Smell - 2.75)

Taste was pretty bland overall. Thought it would be boozier. Got wet grain, corn, cereal, apple, slight herbal and cooked vegetables. Much better than I thought it would taste. (Taste - 2.75)

Light body. Thin texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt finish. Got worse as it went down. (Feel - 2.25)

Better than I thought, but not quite as good as the regular Genesee beer. (Overall - 2.50)

Looks a dark, rich gold or maybe an overachieving copper? Almost offensive in it’s lack of any appealing smell. Passable taste I guess. I love this beer for two reasons. One, it’s cheap. Two, the alcohol content. It’s at least as good as Budweiser, without paying extra for cutesy ads. Furthermore for you foamheads, if you know how to pour a beer, you would be minimizing foam, not hyping it.

Straw color with a decent head. Not much on smell at all, or taste. Super light body, barley felt like a beer, weak on flavors with corn being the most noticable. Not good

Poured a typical pale straw color, white fluffy head that fades pretty fast and there is little lacing left on the glass. This is a drinkable ice beer that is just under the too sweet flavor that turns me off. This is a hard to find beer in the Chicago and Milwaukee area. I found it in Madison. Worth a try if you like ice beers.

L - Gold color with transparent body. Plenty of soapy head that left no lacing

S - Typical macro aroma. Wet hay and grain.

T - Mild caramel sweetness with more grains and corn. Small metallic finish.

F - Thin body. No aftertaste. Actually goes down easy.

O - Not offensive to the palate. Some mild sweetness makes it a better macro choice than others.

Not the worst ice beer I've ever tasted, but the least favorite of the Genny beers I've tried so far. It's one of those beers that makes one question if they may be crossing the line into a diagnosible drinking problem. Beware.

Golden colored beer with a rapidly fading head. Taste is the usual graininess you get with macros. I like this beer and if you go by the style it fits perfectly.

Got a single 24 oz can of this recently. Poured into one of my pint glasses, this beer pours a clear, medium to dark golden color with lots of streams of little bubbles fairly rapidly and continuously rising to the beer's surface. Has a white head that's over an inch thick when first poured that settles eventually to a thick ring lining the inside of the glass along with a nice, thick, creamy looking layer of surface with good lacing. Aromas of some lightly breaded malts, a bit of apple, and a bit of alcohol. The taste is pretty the same, with some lightly breaded caramel malts with a bit of sweetness that gives way to some graininess and a bit of grassy corn. Unfortunately this also has a bit of a metallic adjunct flavor. Not really an discernible hop flavor here. Has a fairly crisp, yet smooth, light to medium bodied mouth feel. Has a clean finish with a slightly dry and somewhat metallic aftertaste. I've had better beers of this style and I've certainly had worse.

I dont know if we have the cheapeast prices in Mad Town or what. This 24oz can was 99 cents truly a working class price. They have had Genesse in Wisconsin for a while now. I really enjoyed the Genesse cream ale out in Buffalo a few years back, lets check this out.

I think I want this in the can, but i'll poor a bit out in this Old Style glass just to get a look...noticeably darker gold than most lagers, slow disapating head. Heavy sweet corn with slight metallic aroma. That color again, different.

First nip, kind of bland. From the can, bland, metallic. Grainy, corn, slighty sweet. Not all that good. Might be alright sittin out back with one of my Parodi cigars. I like the look of the old school can, the color of the beer is the best thing going for it. For 99 cent you cant go wrong.

A - nice golden amber clear color with no head
S - fusel alcohol, light green apple, corn, bread, carbonated water
T - corn, light green apple, alcohol, bread, carbonated water. Honestly not that terrible.
M - light mouthfeel, alcohol covered, aftertaste is light beer
O - its comparible to Mickey's. Ice beer that's not all that strong at 5.5%. The plain black can with block letters makes me happy.

I'm not going to bother doing a L/S/T/F/O description of this beer. Instead I will just tell you that I lost a bet with a friend of mine and as a result, I can only drink Genny Ice for an extended period of time. I'm not happy about losing. That being said, it's not THAT bad of a beer, but it's definitely not enjoyable. ABV @ 5.5% isn't even that outstanding for a poor beer.

This isn't one of the new "Zima" crap beers. This is a beer flavored beer. It looks like beer. It tastes like beer. It's exceptional served ice cold on a hot, humid day.
Currently this beer (which tastes surprisingly like the beers my Father and his Father before him drank), runs 99 CENTS for a 24oz can.
Feel free to run this brew down and waste your cash on crap brewed beers that are cloying and undrinkable.
It's beer-flavored beer for me!

Bought this 24 oz. can at the Front Street Binghamton, NY Weis Grocery Store, which used to be my one-stop shop for Horseheads Brewing Company bombers(not stocked anymore). $1.99 seemed reasonable. After consumption, a 200 mile drive back there for a refund was on the table. OK I'll admit that I downed this during an Adele special on NBC that there was no escape from in my house, and perhaps that made everything seemed worse than it actually was...but the corn soda flatness and salty sting of this beer's taste was beyond vindication; and I'm a Genesee fan when it comes to 12 Horse or Bock, or maybe even I'm a little bit partial to their Cream Ale. Sorry, 6 oz. of this met the drain head on. What aspect of beer like this is "ICE" describing, anyway??

Smells of roasted grains and sweet corn. Some rice.

Taste is exactly like the nose. A little on the sweet side and faintly metallic. Not quite as flavorful as the Cream Ale.

The feel is surprisingly medium bodied. It has high carbonation and a pretty smooth finish. While this is normally a pretty good feel for a beer, it's not what I'm looking for in a beer like this. It's almost a chore to get down.

Overall, not a terrible representation of an AAL, but not a good one either. It's basically just a beer with a good price for a decent buzz.

Found this locally and after tasting found it wanting.

I like Genesee generally and this was a disappointment. Light color, light hops, medium texture and flavor with some malt in there that is overshadowed by the adjuncts. Fairly nice beer but the aftertaste rings adjunct like a bell. I know, you can't make high gravity beer without adding more fermentable stuff but the adjuncts used here achieve only the goal of higher ABV while marring the beer overall.

There are cheap buzzers available for cheaper.

Looks much darker than your average adjunct ice beer. With a limited head and no lacing. The smell is of tasted malt and something astringent with a hint of alcohol.

The taste is toasted malt and not the usual corn overload you would find in this style. Not many or any off flavors.

Medium to heavy mouthfeel, with strong carbonation. This is extremely heavy for the style.

Overall, I find this to be a remarkably nice surprise for the category. It masks almost all the unpleasant characteristics you find in cheap ice beer. Oddly I find this beer to look and smell like a strong Guinness blonde. Highly recommended if you really want an adjunct ice beer.

Dark golden color with a small rocky white head and slow moving large carbonation bubbles moving slowly through it.

Yeasty white bread smell with some sweet notes.

Thick creamy malty sweet taste.

Feel is somewhat described in the taste above. A medium mouth feel that has a very pleasing creaminess to it. Finish was a pleasing wash of wet refreshment that drops off slowly and cleanly.

This one was a real surprise! I like several of the offerings from Genesee as they fit the bill for a tasty beer at an incredibly low price. This one I found in 24 oz. cans at our local grocery store. Since I had not seen this before I thought I would give it a try. And I am glad I did! This is a very nice creamy beer and if memory serves me it was only about $1.40 for a can. Pretty good beer for an inexpensive adjunct lager.

This is a prime example of an AAL. Deep amber color. Corny and riddled with metallic notes. Head sticks around and lasts. At 5.5% it doesn't really hurt you. Be careful though, when this warms up it becomes a whole new animal. Probably won't buy again.

After trying the cream ale by Genesee, I needed a cheap beer for some change and this is what I picked up.
I was really unsure because it just says "ICE Beer" on it. Not knowing what it would be like compared to the green can.
Cracked the 24 fl oz can and poured it into a lager mug, my favorite mug.
Pours a common golden color, decent foam head depending how aggressive you are with the pour.
Smell, like the green can, I couldn't smell anything, from the can I got a faint hint of your average cheap beer, but in a glass, even fi I bring my nose to it, I can't get anything.
Taste, like the green can, has a roasted malty flavor, but less than the green can. It's a good flavor, especially considernig the price and it's not watery.
Feels smooth, easy to drink, almost creamy feel to it.
Overall, for cheap stuff, it's good, I can see the taste not being appealing to some, but for the price, it's not watery, nothing much to complain about here.
