It's not red--it's amber, darker than some, lighter than others. No head to speak of, but it has a soft, hoppy smell. It's not complex. Nor are the hops at all evident in the initial taste, which I found rather bland. Not much to the aftertaste either. It is extremely light and watery in mouthfeel. That said, red lager is the best of the Genesee family that I've had, but mainly because it is not offensive. Really cheap, too!

I was quite impressed with Genesee Red. For the money, you get a very drinkable, quite decent tasting beer. It is by no means to be considered a complex brew, but for me it does what it was meant to accomplish: quench my thirst without leaving me with a sour face.

Genny Red pours a very nice reddish amber color. A thin foam head forms a disappears very quickly. The smell is somewhat subdued: some caramel malt and maybe a hint of hops. The mouthfeel is smooth, but bordering on typical macro-lager wateriness. The initial taste was heavy on caramel. Very sweet. Elsewhere on the palette, the caramel and roasted grain flavors are present, but this brew has some problems asserting itself (read: it was more watery than I expected). Hops lend a dryness to the finish, but not enough for a balance. The aftertaste is very clean and almost non-existent except for hints of grain. The beer also leaves only a little bit of alcoholic warmth.

I recommend Genny Red in the same way I recommend PBR: good cheap macro beer. Good with snacks while watching the tube.

Very light amber/gold color with a very faint hint of red. Pours with a fluffy white head that, if you blink, will be gone before you open your eyes again.

Smell is sweet grains (corn?) and wet fabric. Very subdued. Taste is generally sweet, with very VERY light malt, a tiny bit of caramel and a somewhat tart underlying flavor.

Not bad for maco-beer. Has a bit of character.

Pours clear amber red, with a foamy frothy head and a stick with it lace. Smells faintly of roasted hops, earthy malts and musky yeast. Genny Red has the signature of Beer all over it. If Genny's had little more of the already present flavor and character it could be sold in bottles for a few dollars more. Unfortunately, it has been my experience that mass produced beers cause headaches.

Drink Cold.

Presentation: 12 oz can with a multi-coloured dark red theme … no freshness date.

Appearance: Clear reddish amber, obvious cold filtering has take place. The head is a surprise with its rocky density and sticky lace.

Smell: Filtered grain aroma, semi clean though this grainy twang gets in the way.

Taste: Clean palate, crisp and smooth at the same time to pull the drinkability up. Light to moderate body with a light malt character. Touch of toasted malt flavour with residual dextrins. Hops are nearly bland with a bitterness that tries to balance. Clean again in the finish, no harshness or astringencies.

Notes: A filtered amber lager. Clean, clean and clean. Drinkable yet clean. What else is there to stay but clean … a clean amber lager brewed in the American style.
