12oz bottle poured into a Duvel tulip. No date.

Appearance - Medium dark brown body. Offwhite frothy head with good stick and decent retention. Swirling instantly creates more frothy head.

Smell - Sweet nutty malt. Slight banana.

Taste - Slight coffee bitterness followed by a thin underripe banana maltiness. No complexity. A little light on the body, but still enjoyable.

Mouthfeel - Light and frothy due to what seems like an unlimited amount of body carbonation that easily converts to head when agitated in the glass or mouth. Mild astringency, which actually helps this beer out a bit.

Overall Drinkability - A bit plain, but has no off characters. Would make a decent session.

Appears a deep clear colored ruby chestnut brown, with a fine khaki head. Fine speckled lacing left behind after the head settles. Aroma has a subtle nuttiness to it but doesn't scream artificial flavor or syrup sweetness. Mild roasted malt character in the nose with an edge of herbal hops. Flavor is superbly balanced compared to what I was expecting some latent sweety syrup notes arise as a dry nuttines with herbal leafy hops coming in amongst the dark roasted malt character pretty interesting array of flavors. Mouthfeel is medium bodied carbonation is pretty sturdy feels pretty industrial with a craft kick to it all comparable to the Saranac lineup in that regard. These continue to sell because their around 12 bucks a sampler 12 pack, can't beat it for the new beer enthusiast who wants to make a low risk investment into the realm of flavorful beer.

12 oz bottle in a pint glass.

Pours a very clear brown. There is a decent tan head, but this retreats rapidly, leaving little more than a ring but good lacing on the glass.

Mouthfeel: well-chosen carbonation. Medium-thin body. Beyond crisp, this one is a bit harsh and acidic feeling. Nice, unusually dry (for style and ABV) finish.

Aroma: mild: toasted malt; nutty and lightly spicy.

Taste: a tad light for style; no serious flaws; nice dry nutty finish, perhaps in part to the "natural hazelnut flavors". Approaches 4.

O - Not a typical brown ale, but overall an average quality brown ale. Very good value as part of Dundee 'craftpack'.

Pours a nice, clean caramel-amber. Solid head of carbonation, exquisite lacing. Superb!

Aroma is thick and malty, as expected of the style. Seems faithful enough.

Taste is syrupy sweet, with tones of nuts, leaves, some caramel or toffee, even some chocolate in there...actually not bad at all.

As with the other Dundee brews (had this as part of a mix pack), not an outstanding beer, but certainly drinkable. Easily recommendable to craft beer novices (and those on a budget), as this 12-bottle, 4 style mix only set me back $10.49.

Pours dark brown with a large foamy white head with minimal lacing.

Smell is surprisingly hoppy for a nut brown, they seem to dominate. I can barely even pick out any sweet malt at all. Other than that, not much else going on.

Taste- the malts are much more noticeable in the palate. Initial hazelnut comes through, followed by a dry chocolate taste. finishes with a honey-like sweetness, almost too sweet. There are some good flavors coming through, but the balance seems just a tad bit off.

Mouthfeel is good, silky and creamy.

Overall pretty decent. Smell was disappointing and the balance of tastes seemed a bit off, but still ok for a nut brown.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a bronze color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is mild, a bit on the malty side. Taste is malts, some nuttiness, just a touch of hops, mild but refreshing. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is an enjoyable beer.

Sampled from the 12 fl. oz. bottle on November 19, 2011. The pour is darker amber about the color of chestnut with fine clarity and a long lasting, but smallish head. The aroma is fairly typical for the style with that small dash of hazelnut mixed in with the malts and sugar. The body is thin to medium. The hazelnut is not as noticeable in the taste which tends to be bitter and a little astringent at the end. As far as Nut Browns go this is adequate and a litle less costly than some. But it is not extraordinary.
