Introduced in 1933 and relaunched in October of 2011, this English-Style Ale is Genesee’s most requested Heritage brew. Brewed with six-row barley malt, hops from the Yakima Valley, and Genesee’s proprietary top-fermenting ale yeast. This yeast was brought to the brewery in 1933 from England and has been used in brewing our ales ever since.

I hope to see this again some day, but I'm guessing that's unlikely. Always enjoyed switching from our typical cheap swill to the 12 horse - it had a "real" beer quality that probably influenced me toward seeking more real beer in the future. Gennee in general is a higher quality thank most macros.

I had hoped that this would be a better tasting Genny, but I didn't find it so (or I guess I did as I managed to finish it off). Definitely a good reminder to me to stick to what I like and not get pulled in by the price.

Don’t be a hater, Genny 12 Horse is an old time favorite. I remember drinking at my favorite bar and this is just as god as I remember back then. Genny, please bring this back again, over and over.

Pours golden yellow with a 1/4 inch white head, which dissipates. Moderate lacing.

Aroma is malty, slightly sweet, slightly floral.

Taste is slightly sweet, malty, a bit of corn. Low bitterness.

Light bodied, light carbonation. Semi-sweet finish.

A fairly decent blond ale. Great mixed with V8 juice.

From notes 1/14/13: Pours a deep gold producing almost 2 fingers of foamy, white, somewhat lasting head which leaves only tiny motes of lacing. Aroma is grain and sweet malt with a touch of toast and gentle hoppiness. Taste is very mildly sour/tart with a mild malt sweetness, bready with a lightly bitter, medicinal background that produces a clean, dry finish. Aftertaste is lightly bitter and faintly metallic. There is a sweet quantity in the background that I can't put my finger on (corn syrup/sugar?). Mouthfeel is light bodied, crisp, clean and nicely smooth. Not great, not poor either but certainly average and better than expected.

Got a small glass at the brewery. Looked quite flat and pale yellow. Taste of faint maltiness and hoppiness, yet they complement each other nicely. Bready aftertaste. Not a bad beer actually, can see myself drinking this in a hot summer day.

this is underrated for sure. not meant to be compared to every beer ever i dont think, but in its field, its very solid, a total lawnmower crusher of a beer, the kind i would feel safe drinking a whole mess of and still operating power tools. apparently a really old recipe, timeless in a way, simple beer, yellow and fizzy but with some good flavor to it, nothing adjunct or cheap at all to me, and while i dont get a lot of hops or yeast from it, the beer is fresh and has a nice pale malt character to it. its crisp and crackery, summery and floral even, just beer for drinking, better than many in its category. great clarity and foaminess, lots of bubbles, bright and lively feeling on the palate, not too watery but with a nice light body and finishing dryness. not a ton of depth or anything, but there really doesnt need to be. overall an enjoyable glass of beer for sure, one of the better ones i had on my visit to the brew house, which is a really pretty awesome place. i would buy this for a fridge beer if it were available to me in colorado...

Bought these a few weeks ago at an east end store in the hood. Was already intoxicated upon purchase and regretted it the next day. This will either be okay or a colossal mistake. Let's see.

Look - Clear yellow with the highest modicum of clarity. Large frothy and creamy looking white head sits atop with an assload of carbonation.

Smell - Some corn with some slight hop presence. Kinda like a cream ale really.

Taste - Light amounts of sweet corn with a touch of sugar. Mineral water. Clean with a light hop bite.

Feel - Moderate with moderate carbonation. Again fairly creamy and swallows easy as can be.

Overall - Not too shabby for a $4.99 six pack of bottles from a random store. Put these things in a dirty thirty at the right price and I'll have no problem adding these to a friday night drunken rotation. A lot like their cream ale but more flavorful and quite a bit cleaner in my opinion.

Again, something different from Genny. Hard to find, but worth getting when it's available. Love the bottles. Every now and then, they are distributed in a 12-pack stubbies with Genny, Genny Cream Ale, and the twelve-horse. Haven't seen it lately, but I keep my eye out for it.

An Ale that drinks like a lager. Light gold bordering on yellow. Thin bodied, bubbly, not sour like a lager. Very little flavor at all, in terms of malt and hops. Cool grenade style bottle though.
