A good, easy drinking, albeit dry tasting brew. Very satisfying. Probably could use more citrus and spice flavors. The mouthfeel is very solid- not too light or thin at all. Lots of carbonation bubbles and nice hazy color. The hops, while prevalent, are not too overpowering. Not a bad brew.

Again, thanks to my sister for bringing this up to NJ from VA for me!

Poured in to a Snifter, a quite beautiful, albeit hazy, yellow/orange light copper. 1 inch head sticks around and forms a cap and nice lacing. Lively carbonation refills the head throughout the glass.

On the nose, Rule G is a slightly underwhelming, average IPA. A lot of malt comes through on the nose with the styles' caramel, and very slight, toasted bread qualities. Subtle earthiness but mostly citrus and pungent pine. Very, very subtle California style yeast funk.

Astringent bitterness covers up most of the malt flavors. That dries up your mouth more than you'd expect. There is some sweetness in the back, and you can tell that this beer is leaning towards medium body, but that acidic bitterness really holds it back. With that said, this is a big, tropical, citrus flavored brew. Pineapple, Tangerine, Grapefruit, with a lot of earthy pine covering it. That bitterness is just covering up way too much.

Overall this is a lackluster IPA that suffers from the American trends of California super-hopped beers. With the right techniques this can be pulled off, but they should lay off the IBUs a little on this one and balance it out more.

This beer has a great mouth feel, very smooth! This beer is more than worth trying! The grapfruit and apple taste are there. I could drink this everyday! Enough said! Go buy and try delicious!

From BeerAdvocate Magazine #80 (Sep 2013):

East Coast brewers flexing their hophead muscle. This is a serious American IPA, not just due to the estimated 88 IBUs, which is pretty much at the threshold for anyone’s palate, but rather the broadness of the hop flavor. Well put together, just this beer alone is worth a visit to their taproom.

STYLE: American IPA
ABV: 6.6%

LOOK: Semi-clear brass hue, sticky suds

SMELL: Orange rind, mint, tobacco, biscuity grain, yeast, faint caramel, clean esters, fresh-cut grass

TASTE: Deep smoothness, mildly crisp, heavy hop bitterness, orange forward, grassy, earthy, tobacco, melon rind, warming, slightly spicy, nutty yeast, spicy alcohol, juicy, slightly dry; bitter aftertaste

Nice honey or dark apricot beer with a modest white head. Some lacing left behind. Nice nose of floral and fruity hops. Also a hint of bread. Taste follows suit, hoppy but with nice malts beneath. Could be even better perhaps if it were a bit softer, but I don't doubt some would prefer it as it is. Mouthfeel fairly plain, not as creamy as some. Great to have this available in cans. Can bottom reads "CANNED ON 03/02/16" and I had it on 7 June.

Thought I would try a local beer(brewery is about 30-40 minutes away). Can is very attractive with lots of formulas and history on it. Head is ok, not much. Smell is awesome with a huge hit of grapefruit at the start. Taste is similar with a massive grapefruit-pine hit right away on the palate. Grapefruit-citrus goes away fast and the hop bitterness lingers. Fine with me. Overall, a nice IPA that attacks quick and then mellows rather fast. Overall, nice beer !!

A: A yellow amber in color, with a small amount of white head on top.

S: Orange peel, and citrus, with some light caramel.

T: Grapefruit, citrus peel, and a touch of pine. Some bread and caramel in the finish, with a nice long lingering citrus bitterness.

M: Medium in body, with medium carbonation

O: Overall a pretty standard IPA. Solid flavor, great bitterness, classic.

On tap at Belmont House of Smoke in Norfolk, VA.

This one pours a light amber, with a small head, and lots of webby lacing down the glass.

Smells like grapefruit, orange, and pine, but not super strongly.

This tastes pretty good, I suppose- but it kinda tastes like every other IPA that came before it. It's got a big hop presence, bitter, piney, and a little fruity, with a nice malt backbone that stays in the background. It's pleasant, and it's good, but it does nothing whatsoever to stand out, unfortunately.

This is medium bodied, fairly crisp, slightly juicy. Pretty drinkable.

Not bad, I could certainly drink more of this, but I wouldn't seek it out again.
