Brewed by:

Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
With its pungent and dank hop flavor, 51/50 IPA isn't for those looking for a "balanced" beer. Classic San Diego style IPA with minimal malt flavor so the hops shine through. Why call it 51/50? Because we have to be crazy to put this amount of hops in a beer.

This is about as close to Sculpin as a beer can get. In fact, I'm pretty sure the brewer from Ironfire used to work at Ballast. Similar overall aroma and smell, with maybe slightly less aroma than really fresh sculpin and maybe a touch more bitterness. Overall a pretty nice IPA.

Hands down the best brewery in Temecula and one of the best in a large radius! Everything they do is fantastic! The Ballast Point pedigree is apparent yet, like with a son and his father, eventually the apprentice becomes the master! This is a phenomenal IPA! A seamless blend of several hop varieties makes for a crisp, dry, piney, citrusy bomb that you would never suspect came from a year-old brewery! There's a reason these guys are blowing up and a reason they have an absurdly loyal following!

An unapologetic hop forward West Coast IPA. Reminds me of Green Flash or Ballast Point. The hop bitterness is very sharp on the front end. More pine hops than citrus hops. A very sticky, long lasting bitterness on the finish. There is a nice malt backbone so this is not entirely off balance as far as hop vs. malt go but make no mistake this is a very bitter beer. This is not my favorite kind of IPA but if you are a die hard "hop head" you will definitely like this one.

note: the main description says this is a 7.2% ABV but the bomber I just got says "6.5% ABV"

Good solid IPA. A little malty for my taste.

12 ounce can poured into a tulip glass, canned 12/14/15, 16 days old for this review.

A: Pours a very clear honey orange color with a bright white head, head lasted about 3-4 minutes, lots of carbonation, looks a little thin.

A: Papaya, guava, garlic/onion, hints of citrus like grapefruit, hint of malts, no alcohol on the nose.

T: Guava, garlic/onion, hit of citrus bitterness in the middle, grapefruit peel, hint of malts sweetness on the backend, finish is very dry, like sucking on grapefruit peels, some resin and pine, very tasty.

M: A little light, I would like to have some more body on this beer, very dry finish, after two glasses I have that raked palate feeling.

O: Pretty solid IPA, lacks a little body, but overall love the guava and garlic/onion with grapefruit peel flavors, also just released in six-pack cans which is great because I'm not a big fan of 22 ounce bottles.
