Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
With its pungent and dank hop flavor, 51/50 IPA isn't for those looking for a "balanced" beer. Classic San Diego style IPA with minimal malt flavor so the hops shine through. Why call it 51/50? Because we have to be crazy to put this amount of hops in a beer.

Hands down the best brewery in Temecula and one of the best in a large radius! Everything they do is fantastic! The Ballast Point pedigree is apparent yet, like with a son and his father, eventually the apprentice becomes the master! This is a phenomenal IPA! A seamless blend of several hop varieties makes for a crisp, dry, piney, citrusy bomb that you would never suspect came from a year-old brewery! There's a reason these guys are blowing up and a reason they have an absurdly loyal following!

Very tropical smelling with that "dank" quality in the background. I also am getting caramel malt smells. It tastes like hops all the way with notes of peach, strawberry and grapefruit. The caramel malt comes in and leaves quickly with the tea, herbal and pine like qualities from the bitterness.

Very awesome IPA. I would be really proud to call this one my year round if I was a brewmaster.

Very hoppy for a regular IPA, enjoyed this beer a lot.

This IPA was solid all around. It wasn't the best or the worst, but it was drinkable, and I didn't want to put it down. It has a great bitterness, and just enough malt character to smooth out the bitterness. I pick up pineapple at the start, and a bitter grapefruit in the end.

An assault of nice tasty bitter bitter hops from start to finish. Well done Ironfire.

My neighbor knows I dig IPA's so he was kind enough to return a favor by snaggin' me a bottle of this in return - thanks chris! Poured into a Brouwerij 't Ij branded tulip.

A: Pours a slightly hazed straw-like hue with a fat white head that gives way to massive amounts of lacing that coat my glass from start to finish.

S: Grapefruit rind, piney, chlorophyllic grassiness, cracker malt, finishing with a slight hint of distinct California ale yeast - nice balance going on here.

T: On point with the nose but with greater amounts of hoppy goodness - not unlike chewing on grapefruit rinds of the white grapefruit variety (not that fake pink shit), pine sap, fresh cut grass that recedes only slightly to reveal a modest amount of malt - just enough to lend a slight balance to the hoppy goodness of this ale. Damn fine West coast stylie here!

M: On the mellow end of a medium bodied brew, perfect carbonation for the style, with a great resinous finish from all that lupulus goodness.

Great West Coast IPA from a brewery I had no prior knowledge of. Thanks to my good neighbor here in OB, I was fortunate enough to try this fine ale. Damn good representation of what we're doing here in San Diego - again, fu*k the malt - bring on the hop!
