Notes:
Action Man is a Vienna (or amber) lager and has a light reddish copper color with a light toasted malt aroma. Soft, elegant malt complexity is in the forefront with a firm enough hop bitterness to provide a balanced finish. At 5.5% alcohol by volume it is an easy drinking craft beer with a crisp finish suitable for enjoying all year round.

on tap at beer study in chapel hill into a teku glass.
pours a crisp red color with a nice 2 finger head. the smell is a tad off, a bit smoky even. malts are definitely there though. taste however is on the money, good crisp malt backbone with the typical amber lager characteristics. very drinkable. medium bodied, medium carbonation.
overall a very drinkable amber lager. recommendef.

Had on tap. Murky light brown with a fluffy finger of cream foam. Caramel and toast in the nose with a spicy hop finish for the aromas. Taste follows, has a certain muted nature to the hops but malts are creamy in the delivery. Feel is lush with the malts, but very monotone, get some toastiness by the finish. It's ok

Hazy light brown with a cream head. Nice nose of spicy malts and yeast. Taste dominated by complex spicy malts, rich with notes of autumn leaves and over-ripe apples. Mouthfeel rich but not too full, slightly creamy, ends with a lingering tingle. Hop presence subtle and nicely integrated. A fine rich light brown lager. My first beer from this brewery. Poured from can into nonic and enjoyed 9 July 2016. Note: as of this review date, the information on the page says this has an ABV of 5.1% but my can says 5.5%.

12 ounce - $2.00 at Tasty Beverage Company in Asheville, North Carolina.
Appearance: Looks to be a lightly hazed, amber-hued body with a small, near white head.
Smell: A little musty, mushy graininess with a smattering of pine and spice and a background hint of forgotten fruit.
Taste: Toasted barley grains given a dollop of sweetish golden syrup. An odd 'off' fruitiness emerges pretty quickly, obscuring the minor piney/sprucey vibe and light spicing. Thinning, bitterish finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium-low carbonation.
Overall: Better sit this next round out, Action Man.

12oz Can
Wilson sent me this in a recent can onslaught. You're good people, no matter what everyone says! Action Man sports good clarity and a body the color of a tarnished penny. There's no other way to put this, the head is billowing; it's dirty white and the consistency of shaving cream. As I drink puffy clumps cling like glue to the glass. Mighty appetizing.
Toasted grains and big notes of oven warm bread jump from the glass. Caramel maltiness picks up as this beer sits and there are some faint, very faint, fruity esters. Mildly nutty with a spicy though subtle hop profile. The nose is very clean overall. I'm a fan.
The flavor follows the nose closely and cleanly. Hot from the oven bread leads the way with toasted graininess following closely behind. A soft caramel sweetness picks up mid palate before clean grains and spicy hops invade the swallow. The hop profile is peppery and lasts long on the finish.
The body has a density square in the middle of the spectrum. While soft sweetness hits in the middle the spicy hop profile dries up the rear and leaves a lingering bitterness that's fairly assertive for the style. Highly drinkable.
I've never drank anything from, or even heard of, Howard Brewing but they know how to brew a Vienna lager. It's crisp, clean and malty with a nice spicy hop profile to clean it all up. Thanks again, Wil!

A: Pours a crystal clear medium orangish amber in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass and some copper highlights. The beer has a half finger tall foamy off-white head that reduces to a medium sized patch of larger bubble and a thick film covering the remainder of the surface of the beer along with a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Light to moderate aromas of toasted and caramel malts with just a touch of earthy/spicy hops in the background.
T: Upfront there are moderate flavors of toasted malts that have a light to moderate amount of caramel malt sweetness with a very light hint of earthy hops. Light amounts of bitterness are present in the finish.
M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth and relatively creamy.
O: Easy to drink and enjoyable with well hidden alcohol. Definitely worth grabbing and I like the fact that it is available in cans.
