Very Good
Wilson IPAWilson IPA
Notes: Formerly Rhombus IPA

Wilson, formerly known as Rhombus, is like an IPA that grew up in Malibu. Citrus, tropical and pine, its sunny and breezy with a subtle malt backbone. But don’t let that laid back vibe fool you, it packs a strong hop flavor that will have you California dreaming.

This IPA was a fun surprise. It has a strong citrus aroma that really explodes in flavor. Sweet, citrusy, slightly piney. Good carbonation and piney hops on the finish. I’m not the biggest IPA guy but I’m a big fan of this.

A Microbrewed Beer Club offering. Pours a hazy gold color with a foamy white head that lasts quite a while. Aroma is citrus with a hint of grapefruit. Taste is citrus with a slight bit of hoppy bitterness. Not overly bitter like a lot of IPAs.

Appearance: Pours a lightly hazed, yellowish-toned body with a medium-sized, white head.

Smell: Atop the passing, mild maltiness are lightly floral, contemporary muskmelon notes with touches of herbs, pine sap and a lemon-lime citrus blend.

Taste: Modestly malty, a crackery, grainy quality with some restrained sweetness and light hint of wheat. As with the nose, it leads floral and melony, trailed by citrus, pine and snappy herb. Medium bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.

Overall: A decent IPA.

L- Cloudy pale orange beer with floppy foam head and moderate lacing
N- Butterscotch and orange notes - is this a diacetyl defect ?
N- Tastes like butterscotch and slight orange like citrus with a sweet aftertaste. Very little hops present with a more dry note on the finish.
M- A bit slick and close to oilyness to the mouthfeel. The finish leans to the dry side.
O- I feel the beer is too sweet and butterscotch candy like with an almost butyric acid note. This beer is a drain pour for me.

Hazy, light gold color. Head is speckely, lacey, and clings to glass. Smells of soft pine, citrus hops, lemon, sea salt. Taste follows, with a fantastic balance of piney hops, lemon citrus, and a honey finish. The ABV is hidden, and carbonation is near perfect for me, not over powering but lively. Overall, this is a damn refreshing, easy drinking IPA, definitely going on the rotation for when I don’t want to be beaten over the head with hops but still want an IPA.

Taster at Growler Guys. Pale golden, slight haze, small tight head, lacing coats the glass. Faint citrusy aroma, lemon zest. Taste is grainy, light citrus, hops zing. A bit on the light side, but still tingles the palate.

Mostly clear, off gold body with medium large white head. Lacing is absurdly thick, and beautiful.

Flavors are bright herbal and dank pine hops, layed out over some chewy biscuit malts. Carbonation is medium and quite nice.

12 ounce can into tulip glass, no can dating. Pours very hazy/cloudy deep golden amber color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, mango, honeydew melon, citrus peel/rind, wood, mint, peppercorn, pine, wheat, cracker, biscuit dough, light honey/toast, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. A bit too malty/muddy aromas, probably not fresh. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/earthy hops and bready malt notes; with big strength. Taste of big red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, mango, honeydew melon, citrus peel/rind, wood, mint, peppercorn, pine, wheat, cracker, biscuit dough, light honey/toast, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of red grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, mango, honeydew melon, citrus peel/rind, wood, mint, peppercorn, pine, wheat, cracker, biscuit dough, light honey/toast, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/earthy hops and bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and no astringent hop flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy/sticky, and fairly crisp/resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 7.5%. Overall this is a delicious IPA. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/earthy hops and bready malt flavors; very smooth, easy, and fairly crisp to drink with the modestly bitter/resinous/drying finish; nicely soft feel and not aggressive. Feels like Columbus, Centennial, and Amarillo. Very juicy, vibrant, and fairly dank/earthy hops; with a great clean bready malt backbone. Light residual sweetness with crisp resin dryness. A very enjoyable offering and well made West coast style example. Would have been better fresh.

12oz undated can poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass at fridge temp 7.5% ABV 77 IBU. The beer pours barely hazy dirty yellow with nearly white head. The head recedes to a thin cap and leaves plenty of lacing. The aroma is faint with citrus and pine. The taste is semisweet pale malt with more citrus and pine. Moderately bitter. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, adequately carbonated and mostly dry in the finish. Overall, good. Pretty good IPA and I got really lucky on a fresh can. Would drink on draft with no hesitation.

really good ipa, one of their more popular, and i see why, among the best roadhouse beers i have had to date, i really liked this. its surprisingly strong too, it looks really pale, drinks easy, dry, and without a lingering hop bitterness or oil profile that are the common indicators of a bigger ipa, its dangerously easy, fresh as can be from the tap and just delicious. it has a really fruity hop profile, citrus sure, but also like ripe melon and mango to me, its almost weed-like too, that kind of dank sexy stink to it, even purple grapey as it warms up a little bit. i like how perfectly the hops from the nose come to the taste, its not lost at all, as it often is in a lot of the more dry hop focused beers. the malt base is light and simple, almost assuredly some wheat in here, but its very dry, really clean, and perhaps contributing just a little bit of cereal balance to the mix. the hops are there early and are right up front, cantaloupe, pineapple, and even coconut, its an awesome hop profile really, and there is no trace of its strength at all, even as i let it warm up. killer beer, id be happy to drink this any time. really well done here, modern and flavorful and dry and drinkable, i loved it!

12 oz can. Pours hazy yellow gold with a small white head that quickly goes to a thin collar that leaves a little lacing.

The aroma is subdued with some fruity malt.

The flavor is sweet malty citrus fruit with a balancing resiny bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with low carbonation.

Overall, a nice IPA.

Poured from a 12oz can with no distinguishable dating; into a pub glass.
Appearance- gold, plenty of noticeable floating sediment and swirling bubbles that maintain a medium-thin white head; lacing is fantastic!
Smell- some orange peel, kiwi and floral notes.
Taste- mandarin oranges, kiwi and some floral hops.
Feel - mild body; a touch too sweet as the sweetness takes the bitterness down.
Overall- nice beer, but nothing that separates it from the many, many other IPA’s out there.

Clear, light yellow body; lots of fine carbonation; dense, creamy, white head. Light scent of lemon bread; berry-like esters. Well-balanced malt and hop flavors; light grain base; prominent hop bitterness; delicate lemon tones. Medium body; crisp and clean; dry finish.

Wyoming continues to produce some fine beers. This offering from Jackson Hole is tasty, zesty, and punchy, balanced and nuanced throughout.
