Well right off the bat, if you don't like rosemary, pass on this one. If you do, keep reading. I thought the smell was especially vibrant with the rosemary, honey, straw, funk, flowers, belgian yeast, and candied orange. Pleasant and springy. Taste was a little strong on the rosemary, but the yeast and malting helped cut into a little, along with sweet citrus and I think complimenting belgian spices, but it could be a different kind of spice. Feel was the area I could tweak though, breaks down as you do through the sip, and carbonation is a little high for a spiced beer.

This ale proves that beer is mostly for the kitchen... at least for me and others carrying that torch.
As a beer, there are not many reasons to have La Socarrada and say "wow!" Not lots of hops, not much malt, not even much yeastiness that I like from the Belgians.
Yet..... If you have La Socarrada with food; my response more is... "I get it now. Beer is food."
To Look at La Socarrada is to see nothing special, a nice murky, reddish-amber ale whose foam went away fast. Also nothing special about the Smells, except that honey/rosemary combo is truly distinctive... I'm just not sure what to make of it. Then the Taste gives me a similar head-scratching on the first sip.... but by the third, I get it. This beer goes with food. The rosemary is seasoning for food and the honey makes me salivate. But, this beer also is a bit dry. A mystery to me, but I think this, too, cleanses the palate for more food.
Fortunately, I had planned a simple pasta and red sauce, side of spinach sautéed in as much garlic as oil. My average cooking was made into a good experience by La Socarrada. When a beer improves food, it is a good beer for me.
I should note that Catalonia is the "autonomous" region where this is brewed. Not far outside of the Barcelona metro, La Socarrada's town is small but the area contributes to the culinary excellence of the region.
