A: Very IPA-like. Bright amber body with tight, thick white bubbles crowing it. The bubbles poured a couple fingers and are slowly dissipating leaving a mossy lacing.

S: Fruit juice, tropical fruits, hop resin, pine. All the C-hop goods.

T: Sharp, very bitter. I get tobacco. Nowhere near as much fruity and citrus hops as the nose. Interesting beer. I like the nose more than the taste.

M: Thin to medium. Lively on the tongue.

Poured from the tap in Chester, VA.
Aroma- A nice blend of hops and citrus.
Appearance- The beer pours a murky burnt orange with a large white head.
Taste- The hops come through with a nice melding with the citrus flavors, nice taste.
Palate- A really good IPA, has a medium body with mild carbonation and an oily texture.
Overall- I liked this beer, I will drink it again when I am back in the area.

Not overly hoppy, very smooth. very drinkable. Especially great for pairing, since it will not overpower the pairing. Probably one of the best beers to have with red meat, especially a med-rare steak. Beer looks great in a glass, and not overly sour or tart. COTU hit a home run with this beer.

Served on tap in a sample glass.

Appearance: Darker amber color with a thin off white head.

Smell: Light hops.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Smooth medium bodied. Taste of bitter hops and pine with a hint of citrus.

Overall: Decent IPA. I would probably have this one again.

Center Of The Universe Brewing "Pocahoptas IPA"
on tap at Mekong, $5 for a "nonic" pint glass
then re-reviewed from a fresh can coded "IN ORBIT ON 05/16/17" and sampled on 06/29/17
$2.99 @ Total Wine & More, Virginia Beach, VA

Appearance: Deep copper, off-white head, no lacing... dirty glass? // Somewhat hazy with visible particulate in suspension, most likely from dry-hopping. The head held fairly well but left only small amounts of lacing - definitely a "beer clean" glass though.

Aroma: Citrusy, piney, subtly earthy, and floral hops as expected. They're not overly bold, but clearly present - enough so that no malt makes its way through the mix. // I'm finding a medium caramelish maltiness as well as the hops, a softer citrus, and less pine.

Flavor: As the aroma indicates (grapefruit, pine, pineapple, orange) with a bit of straightforwardly sweetish biscuity/toasty malt acting as a springboard. It's fairly bitter, cutting off the malt and hops, and giving it it a one-two punch of character rather than greater complexity. // Not nearly as bitter, much more balanced and rounded. I'm getting more orange and pineapple than pine and grapefruit.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate carbonation (which is probably a good thing given the heavy-handed bitterness). // Mouthfeel remains exactly the same.

Overall: Hop bomb. Somewhat off-balance. If that's what you're looking for it works, but I couldn't see having a second one. // I wouldn't call it a hop bomb at this point, and certainly not off-balance. In fact I'm not sure it's got enough hops! It's much better though, and far more drinkable. Less bitter for sure. I've updated my original score which was a 3.75 overall with 3.75 across the board. Nice that I was able to get back to this one.

Much better from a can than the tap. Aroma is very subtle, not strong. Citrus, bitter, piney. A solid brew.

Poured from a 12oz can into a speiglau IPA glass.

Look is a slightly hazy dark amber with little to no head.

Aroma is astringent herbal lemon malt and a note of sweet molasses.

Taste is much better than aroma. Nicely balanced hops and sweet malt.

Had this as a side-by-side tasting with aleworks drake tail, and devils backbone 8 point to determine what the best IPA available in virginia is. Hands down COTU has stepped up and taken the crown imo. More malt backbone than the db, but not as much as the aleworks, well blended with plenty of hoppy bitterness. A must try for those looking for a good beer in RVA outside of Hardywood. Cheers
