This is a new brewery that opened in 2012 in an old train depot just a little ways south of the TC downtown area. The building is perfect for a brewpub, and the owners did a good job with the interior layout.

The wife and I stopped here on a recent pub crawl and had a sampler of 6 of their 14 beers. (They were out of the Scottish Ale, which is said to be the most popular, so we were bummed about that.) We ordered the Oatmeal Stout, the Huntington IPA, the Oktoberfest, the Rye Pale Ale, the Harvest Ale, and the Dunkelweizen. They were all good beers that I'll give a C+ to a B rating range. They were all right to what I think the taste should be for each style, although a couple of them seemed a little weak and is why I rated them a little lower. For 'dessert' we had a small glass of the Porter, and it was a good one too.

We also ordered a flat bread pizza to go along with the beer. The pizzas are baked in a brick oven that you pass when you come in the door on the railroad tracks side of the building. It was delicious. The selection of pizza toppings is a little unusual, but it's fun to try new combinations. We were the first customers of the day so the service was very good.

Although this is a new brewery they've done their homework before opening this place, and have created a brewpub that is very worthy of a visit. We'll go back there again.

The Filling Station, oddly enough, is located in an old filling station right off the tracks. A host stand greets you when entering and before being seated you walk up a couple stairs to the bar room first which is separate from the dining area, although you can eat in both. The bar is short and only has a couple stools so there's room for patrons to order. 6 or 8 tables and a couple TVs sit in the bar area while the dining area is full of tables and booths.

The taplist is pretty extensive with 15-20 house beers flowing at any given time. I sampled 7-8 on my last visit and all were a hit, some being stellar (stout, IIPA, and English Porter). Happy hour runs from, I believe, 8-11 where most beers ring up at $3.25, which is unbeatable in my opinion. The service was top notch. A younger girl was talkative and excited about her job, my trip, and the world in general. That's refreshing to find these days. The bartender was a little quiet at first but opened up and was talkative about the Chicago beer scene and the haps in Traverse. The Filling Station is another place I would have loved to have spent more time. Check this place out in Traverse!

Visited the Filling Station on a semi-rainy day. Didn't get other see much of the interior of the place, as we walked in and we're immediately seated outside by the train tracks. Location gets an immediate 5. Besides being able to eat and drink on the platform of the old Depot, across the tracks is an attractive park, and Boardman Lake. Great view. A train rumbled by while we were there, and a few kids at the table next to us placed pennies on the tracks for souvenirs. Stuff I did as a kid.

On the platform are picnic style tables and a bar you order your food at. Better like pizza and salads, cause that's what they've got. Tried the spicy beer cheese, it was all right. Someone at our table got a salad. Wife and I got the Burlington Northern,(okay) two of my kids got a pepperoni to split,(okay) my in-laws got the B. L Tizza(awesome) , and the youngest got Mac and Cheese. It was boxed Mac and cheese, and it was $3.50.

Beer was good to great. Highly recommend getting drinks and enjoying the atmosphere and view. If you gotta eat, B.L.Tizza the way to go.

Brewpub is an old railroad stop which was pretty neat. We tried a sampler of 6 - Cambridge IPA, DC ESB, Empire DIPA, Huntington IPA, Manhattan Rye Pale, and Wellington Wheat. Beers were above average to good, but none were truly mind-blowing. We sat outside because it was beautiful out and had so many people stop to ask if we needed anything or if the food was OK, it was almost too much (a unique problem to have). The food was outstanding. My fiancee ate a salad which she said was one of the freshest, best salads she's ever had, and the flatbread pizza was absolutely delicious. Overall a good place to stop in TC.
