A: Tawny copper. Seasonal looking enough.
S: It heaves between shoving your head into a bag of Tate's gingersnaps and then more nuanced aroma of holiday bread.
M: Med body with a lighter feel probably kept aloft by the spices. Dry ending.
T: Sometimes these beers turn into spice bombs...battle royales between strongly spirited piquancies. However, Stiff Mittens manages to blend its component spices--cinnamon, ginger, allspice, and nutmeg--into one cohesive and enjoyable sip. It has just the right enough of savoriness from the nutmeg to keep the caramel-honey sugars tamed; I just wish there was some fruitiness. If it weren't for the holidays I'd probably pass on this, but given the right festive ambiances it finds a place.

I am trying this beer off the tapper at the brewery in Wilson, NY as part of a six sample flight. The beer poured a clear amber with thin white head that is not leaving much lace. The scent had subtle Christmas spice notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with semi sweet malt base with pine, nutmeg, ginger and cinnamon presence.....true holiday warmer. The mouthfeel was medium in body and had good carbonation. Overall it is a good beer.

Deep amber gold color with white cap and lacing.
Marvelous scent of spiced caramel malt. Brewer lists nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger and allspice though I can't pick them out individually which is either descriptive of my ability or evidence of how well they are blended in this brew. I suspect the latter.
Flavor on entry is a richer version of the scents. This is a heavier than average flavor amber without the touches of bitterness that sometimes accompany using darker malt in the mix. I think this one would work well on it's own without the spices, but then it wouldn't be a Christmas brew.
Smooth, medium-full texture with balancing carbonation.
Altogether a treat. These things can come off as unbalanced but this one works.
